Totally Hooked
It feels like it's taken ages (well, not compared to waiting for delivery of the car, but you know what I mean), but I've now hit the 1000 miles! Five and a half weeks wasn't bad going when I was off work for Christmas, and can work from home a couple of days a week as well. I hit the 1000 miles mark yesterday just before I got home, and before getting out of the car I adjusted the beep to not sound until it hits 6500 rpm instead of 4000.
Despite waking up to it being white over outside, and snow actually falling, I decided to go into the office again, as I couldn't resist the opportunity of getting another drive now I'm now officially not 'running it in'. As it was around zero degrees when I left the house this morning, I had a slow and steady drive to work, knowing that I could have fun on the way home, crossing my fingers that the weather wouldn't get any worse.
To my delight, the sun shone most of the day, and the snow melted, although I wouldn't exactly call it warm!
My journey home is around 20 miles, the first half in a congested city (plenty of time to warm the engine up), then half in the country side. Amazingly, it wasn't a nightmare this evening leaving the city, so in no time I was in the countryside, and I could actually put my foot down. Wow, I thought this was a good drive before, but just wait until you get to 'give it some beans'. The power delivery, thanks to not having a turbo, really builds smoothly, and I actually got to hear the fake sound. After reports of it sounding awful, and needing to be turned off, I was pleasantly surprised, it sounded fine (not as good as a having a decent performance exhaust, but still not unpleasant). I really felt like I could put my foot down and enjoy myself, but found I wasn't going as fast as it felt, which after coming from the massive power and extreme acceleration of the 3 litre Supra, is really a good thing. I now have a car again I can have some fun in without constantly having to hold back, which is exactly what I was hoping for. After having a few cars over recent years, I think this car is going to be really hard to beat, when I think about what it costs, the way it drives, and the fact it can be used everyday. I admire those who can resist and either not get their car yet, to get the new numberplate to annoy the neighbours, or keep it as a garage queen to bring out occassionally and have some fun, but I'm glad I'm in a position to be able to get in this car everyday, and will be looking forward to the commute to work, rather than dreading it, and then know I will have fun again on the way home.
As I'm working from home tomorrow, I'm now thinking for a reason I'll need to pop out to the shops, going the long way to get there, in my lunch break...
