GR86 If you cancel, flip or have to wait ages what will you buy instead?

Good luck on your promotion (y)
Car's looking great @LU71KEE and I'll echo what @doogle83 says - all the best with your promotion!

Can you see any circumstances where - if you decide to keep one - you sell the Supra and keep the GR86?
My thanks to you both!

Ermm, I hadn't really thought about it. I do miss 3 pedals and a stick! But I also know that I'd never be able to shift as quickly on my own in a manual as I do an auto.

IF the promotion came with a company car (which it doesn't seem to, but you never know!) and that happened to be a full fat exec car that was the height of comfort and I paid nothing for I guess I would consider letting the Supra go and keeping the GR because I would only be using it as a toy to throw around twisties.

What I like about the Supra at the moment is its ability to be a GT car as opposed to a focused driver's car, I also like the quality of the interior etc (Yes I know its a BMW before anyone starts :D ) I'm also not far off of even on the Supra already thank you second hand car market!

That being said I could chop my current Supra in and get the Manual for £60ish more a month, which would be alot more feasible on the new salary.

Got bored waiting and so bought this. GR86 remains on order.

Nice!! I've always fancied an Alpina. Which engine is it?
350 bhp straight six derv, that thing must pull like there's no tomorrow. Probably more practical in its estate form than 99% of other cars on the road, including 100% of crossovers/"mini SUVs".

You are correct. It's the 700Nm (516lbf-ft) of torque that is the real story (and LSD - a rare option).
With a D3, a GR-86 and old Forester XT I should have all bases covered.

Yeah, that is a great "three car" garage.

As we are (hopefully) nearing the end now, I thought I'd document my weird thought process in terms of buying cars while waiting for the GR86 and see if anyone did similarly.

In April on a wave of Toyota positivity and to better understand the brand I bought a mk3 MR2. Which handled great and was a much more refined motorway car than the MK2 MX-5 I had last year, much to my surprise. I couldn't get over the ordinary engine note though, (I know a decent exhaust/induction kit might have helped but I didn't fancy investing in it) So I sold that to an MR2-obsessed friend.

Now in July and starting to feel a fair amount of negativity towards Toyota I bought an e46 323i for some cheap rear-wheel drive thrills and a 6-cylinder exhaust note. I've had auto e46's before and they've been a bit average but the manual does add some excitement. Absolutely not a sports car by any measure though. Short gearing but a lot of refinement was an odd combination.

Fast forward to the end of September and I've sold the BMW to a friend who was desperately seeking that refinement and started my search for a Renaultsport Clio/Megane to find that focus and excitement I've been after. Last week I went to fetch an Alfa Romeo 166 with the 3.2 Busso V6 because this venture has reminded me that engine note really is king.

We know the GR86 will handle well but video can't do an engine justice we will have to experience it first hand but then again we will be running-in for a while so time will tell.
