Does anyone happen to know if there is a fuse I could remove to stop the headlight washers being activated every time I wash the screen? I know the washers themselves are driven by water pressure (or I assume they are) but there must be something telling the mechanism that the lights are on . . .

Goes through loads of fluid and I don't *really* want it on the paintwork

Those washers only activate if you pull the stalk for at least a second. So if you can't find a fuse, you can at least work around it by just using short bursts when you want to clean the screen. I tend to use a short burst to start, then a second one as the wipers reach the top before they come back down, so they never sweep across a dry screen. Uses less fluid than a long burst, and doesn't trigger the headlight washers.

The headlight wash also doesn't operate with every screen wash, just the first wash after the lights are on.
I thought they then operated again after 3 or 5 washes, but the manual says just the first - I've not actually noticed IRL.

I'll confirm later but I'm pretty sure this isn't the case. The only conditions to trigger them seems to be lights on then hold the stalk for at least ~1 sec. I remember fairly recently running clean water through the system before refilling with Rain X stuff and I specifically operated the headlight washers a few times in a row.

I only have wiring diagrams for US cars unfortunately, but you need to figure out which fuse/relay powers the second washer pump, it has a second pump specifically to give enough grunt to trigger the headlight washers.

Or if you can gain access, just unplug it.

I read "...the headlight cleaners will operate once" as once for each time the stalk gets held, rather than only the first time you do it.

I agree, pretty sure it runs on demand for me. With headlights on I can use the headlight washer jet as many times as I like if i hold the stalk forward long enough

Yeah, having tried it out, that seems to be the case - I guess I generally just don't pull the stalk long enough to trigger the headlight washers.
