Strange email arrived, see photo for requirements.

I have no issue supplying what they ask, but it appears to be that the insurer feels some folk are adapting cars and not declaring mods.

I can only guess that the photo’s are required as proof of car being OEM, or that the mods declared match mods on cars.

I suppose it works both ways if they try and wriggle out of a claim because of mods you've declared.
But I get annoyed at jumping through hoops for insurers given their propensity for ripping us off.
 
This is why I can’t be bothered with modifying cars anymore. It’s too much hassle.
 
Not really much more than filling out an agreed value form, which I’ve had to do with my Elise and Rovers.

I can see why insurers do it. It’s a contract of utmost good faith, and unfortunately human nature is to be somewhat economical with the truth.
 
From a practical perspective, how do you get the camera to focus on the details of your driving licence as well as the car in good enough clarity to show any of the required characteristics?

Had they asked at policy renewal (last Oct), but asking 8 weeks before renewal is weird.

I had a txt msg at 9:36, and 2 mails at 9:37. One of the mails was one of the most unprofessional business mails I’ve every read. Full of threats and deadlines, and the outcome I would suffer if I didn’t comply. There was a 7 day window to send details over to them, I wonder how they deal with folk sitting on a beach for the next 2 weeks…

Hastings will never again get business from me, just because of the content and tone of mail.


As for being able to focus both the DL and car, well you can’t really do that.

If it's within 14 days they shouldn't charge for cancelling. I'm Admiral for the car but Hastings for the bike. Renewal has just come through and I need to haggle it down again as usual. Lots of stuff when I've looked recently for a new bike to go alongside the Triple, they don't insure and I've got 5yrs NCB, riding 11 years so my stats are good.

That just doesn't seem right. I'd forget about providing any of that information until I had spoken to their customer services on the phone to see if it was actually them and not a spoofed 'scam' email. Previously a DVLA scam had people uploading photos of their driving licence for ID theft and people were later warned by the police; "if they ask motorists to verify their driving licence details, it’s easy for them to create a fake identity using your information to carry out further crimes". My advice is to hold fire; check and check again! Every photo they've asked you to provide seems like the ones that would appear in a car 'for sale' advert ... This smells 'Phishy'. They might be making a fake advert of your car to dupe people out of money. 🎣

I have taken photos for an agreed value policy but never including a driving license in the photo.

I guess they feel that a customer who is economical with the true may think twice if the evidence of an undeclared modification is there to be seen in a photo.

We can all decide to use a different insurance company if we don't like the way they do business. It wouldn't put me off

I might have the odd daft moment, but…

Email source is Hastings
SMS source is Hastings
Mails also in the communications box inside the log in / app
