GR86 Hard rev limit when cold

I found out today that the reduced rev limit when cold (shown in red on the tach) really is a limit - no beep, it just stopped accelerating. Interesting the Engineers see it is that important, as I don't think many other cars have it (someone mentioned M3s on another thread). I only found out because I had to accelerate out into fast traffic this morning and I'm sure it would carry on if you floored it but I'm not going to test it.

About 4.5k but I'm not totally sure. It reverts to the standard red line when the coolant temp reaches 51 C.
Correction: The blue light goes out at 51C, the rev limit reverts much sooner.

Odd thing tonight....had to go out so started the engine and let it run while I scraped the ice off the windows. Took me a couple of minutes, when I got in the car the coolant warning light was still on but the rev limit was already at it's normal position. Fine. As I drove off, about half a mile up the road, the guage changed so that the red line was at 4.5k RPM again. I quickly switched to track more to see a more accurate readout of the coolant temp...63C. Then after a 30 seconds or so, it reverted back to 7.5K again and stayed there. Not sure if it glitched out a bit, or if theres some other variable which caused the limit to lower again momentarily.
 
Is it definitely based on coolant temp as opposed to oil?
 
Maybe. Next time I start the car I'll put it straight into track mode to see the exact readout, then watch it while I wait to see what happens.
 
Update. Went out earlier. The rev limit for me changed from 4.5K to 7.5K when the water temp reached approximately 42C.
Oil temp display wasn't even showing a value, so I guess far too cold for the sensor to register it.

I'm wondering if its time dependant opposed to anything else.
 
The manual gives an indication that it is temperature related, but doesn't specify a number, which isn't surprising if its dynamic.
