GR86 GR86 Vs Mazda MX-5 Vs Alpine 110GT in EVO 304

Whsmiths had all 3. Wish I'd just bought the Evo one tbh. Not worth the £16 for all 3
Crikey. Not sure there are any WH Smiths left near me, thought they'd closed down :p
My girlfriend is off work and going to meet a friend at Bluewater this afternoon, think there's still a branch there. She made the mistake of asking "anything you want?" so I've tasked her with finding a copy :D

Lots of services have a WH Smith

I’ve just sat down and read the article. Wow. This is a really good write up and definitely stirs the excitement in me again. It also makes me not regret the decision to sell my MX-5, especially when they said the GR had a much punchier mid range than the MX-5 because, even though it was never “fast”, it still felt lively.

It was also good to see how they compare with the Alpine too.

Come on Toyota, start delivering our cars!!!

The bit about the Alpine not getting away from it on the roads I mainly drive on is a good thing. Being better than things more expensive than it tends to be an 86 trait, even back to the AE86. I'm aware it's subjective but I'd tend to agree what Evo say over most. I loved the GT86 and with everything better, this is about where it should be. CAR and others say the steering is OK but they preferred the Yaris, which I found fine as far as modern cars go, but nowhere near as tactile as the GT86. I'll be doing a back to back at some point with my brothers to see. Can't wait now.

I picked up a copy from WH Smith’s at Membury Services. It was a really good read and should keep me going for a few weeks by which time we will hopefully get some definite news about when we will receive our cars!

Just read it.

Wow.

Did not expect him to rate it above the Alpine. That's certainly reinvigorated my excitement.
And it was Steve Sutcliffe driving, I think this is really important because Steve is NOT one of those journos who is wedded to manuals, which means that he's more than happy to say that an automatic car is better than a manual one, so his effusive phrase of the GR86 against an established mid engined Alpine, is even more impressive!

Agreed. If Steve Sutcliffe likes a car, then its good!

I kinda wish they'd also done a video review of this, it would have been awesome.
I haven't see any UK video reviews yet. I was hoping to see the car on the likes of Evo, Carfection, maybe even Harry's Garage, getting tested on UK roads. Maybe they are in such short supply that we'll only see articles though? Unless video reviews start popping up later.

Petrol Ped is getting a press GR86 "in December". He said he is exicted about it and he is pretty good at getting his content on to his YT channel quickly as he normally does three vids a week.

Yeah I was wondering the same. The same 2 cars? I think covering all reviews, maybe no time for videos?

Hopefully in time. Would also be cool to see it on Top Gear but seems doubtful.

What on earth does that mean? Did your alarm clock go off or something?

Lovely to see the GR getting the Evo stamp of approval, mind.

Do I really need to translate a frequently used ‘new era’ word, and explain the context of it, my comment to a grown man?

While photographing and posting road tests does infringe publication laws, it not murder, and plenty do it. 👍

Carfection aren't doing any more videos anymore I think? Henry Catchpole is with Hagerty these days and I heard he's been busy on a project featuring another Japanese coupe in the last few weeks.....

I know he does Hagerty now too but I didn't think he'd left Carfection? He did a review on the 911 Sport Classic there just a few weeks ago.

The mag also has a performance tyre test with eye opening results.

I used to run Eagle F1's for years before going Michelin. Could give them a go again. They do take a tank or so to bed in. Then braking and grip was really good. Like Michelin's they grip all the way to the markers and a bit beyond if it's dry. Conti's I'll never have again as they are dead at 3mm and never last long.
