GR86 GR86 - The clutch pedal thread

Interested in doing this but I'm slowly getting used to the clutch - although when it's on choke it tends to run away down the drive! Lol
One point though - would there be an issue with any clutch / gearbox warranty claim should it be needed if you've changed the spring?

I doubt it. You're not really doing anything which would affect the gearbox at all. Nor the actual operation of the clutch, really. And from what I hear, most clutch related warranty issues would be batted away because "its a wear item" long before you got into a fight over whether whatever the problem you're claiming for, was caused by such a minor adjustment to the pedal.

But if you were worried about a warranty claim, it's fairly easily reversible anyway.

At 500 miles, clutch feels great to me - in fact, I prefer it this way, as I think it aids in driving the car hard and tight!
Took me getting used to first few times, though I think probably that was from not driving a manual car for the past 6 years.
I can see the pain for those using it as a daily though, as it is not always possible to drive it hard, and in the slow traffic, manual cars can be frustrating, more so this sort of car with this sort of clutch.

@Conscript
I'm planning to do the spring tomorrow... are there any guides or an idiots instructions for someone like me (an ape) to follow? <3
Sorry, I have the spring and I want to give it a go myself

Thank you

It's from a RHD GT86 but the procedure is exactly the same. From what I can see, the entire assembly is no different from the old car.

It's not difficult, it's just fiddly. And it's only fiddly because you have to contort yourself into the foot well on your back. I'm a fatso with the core strength of a slinky, and I managed it on a lunch break.

Got used to the clutch pedal but I havent got used to the lag in the throttle response

Just done the GT86 reset procedure - ignition on. Pedal up and down 5 times. Engine on, wait 30s.

Don't know if it did anything tbh, not been for a drive yet

Does anyone think its the throttle that's the problem and not the clutch?

Genuinely find at high rpm the engine and gearbox are as responsive as anyone could want. But it's so laggy down at low rpm I find I'm stalling the car a bit.

I think it's both, but I don't find the throttle laggy if anything it's over sensitive, too much tip in then not alot after, then you have clutch which is too numb. I changed my spring yesterday, it's not night and day better but it has helped at the sacrifice of losing a light clutch pedal. I am tempted by a pedal commander/roar pedal. But I will put some miles on it as it is first.

75% weaker on the left, 60% in the middle, stock on the right.

I think the pedal box things just amplify the response or sensitivity, so same thing as standard just sped up. Seem pointless to me

I'll see if the pedal reset from the GT86 did anything but in my opinion its the laggy throttle response and a slight dip in revs as you depress the throttle at idle that are causing people problems where they say they can't feel the bite point.

Driving the car it's no problem at all and it responds perfectly well for road use.

Some of the US GR86s are using some sort of throttle response modulator

I have ordered this, not sure when it arrives.
I am not really enjoying the huge lag on 1st gear when getting out of junctions. the first 10/20% feels like random throttle response, I am looking to have 1:1 ratio, just that.
Will let you guys know how it feels

For anyone interested I have ordered the one for the brz as they told me it’s the same

Amazon product ASIN B074BFL6NS
Cheaper then sending it from the US
I'd be interested to know the result on this as there's not any good reviews out there. I don't need the response increasing, just the option to tone it down when in traffic etc. I like the fact it allows you to "accelerate like a race car" and save 20% on fuel too :)

To be fair I am not interested in "response increase". From what I've seen the City mode will be the one to go as it gives you 1:1 ratio, but I will definitely keep you guys updated when it arrives

Gone for LC120M03S. The car has many little irritating flaws as I'm getting used to it, hopefully this fixes the clutch.

Why would they release the GR86 like this, was that what made it £30k? I'd sooner have paid an extra £5k to have all its faults sorted.
