Which insurers are “modification“ friendly? I know some go into meltdown if you want to change alloys where as others are quite happy for you to go pretty wild.

Interested to hear from those with experience in this area?

My focus RS is with Aviva with non standard alloys and a remap and they don't especially care. Remap is warranty friendly anyway but didn't put premium up at all.

Thats good to know 👍 I’m currently with LV but the car is standard So never had any discussions with them regards modifications 🤔

Adrian Flux, been with them 4 years now, they have been really good with my GT86 with mods, there have been a couple of instances where I've found cheaper, but they've always matched it.

This is something I have to think about too. Current car, an Octavia vRS with mods is with Admiral but I wouldn't mind a change of company. Insurance is up in July too so timing could be good but want to get rid of the vRS before this as I'd need to MOT it in July too.

Getting insurance for a 100% standard car is not an issue. For folk planing modifications finding out your insurer says “No” and having to cancel and start again can be expensive ☹️

Interesting topic for me. Currently I'm with Chris Knott on my GT86 with some mods included. I paid for the whole year but obviously I'll be switching to a GR86 in September. I could just cancel the policy and get a refund for the unused period, but then I guess I'll lose out on a full year's NCB.

I'm hoping I can phone them up, explain the situation and see if I can just swap the insurance policy to the new car and pay any difference in the premium. Anyone else ever been in a similar position?

As the cars are pretty similar I would have thought it would be OK. Obviously the value will impact premium

Yeah, I hope so. I'm wondering when it becomes possible to start getting insurance quotes on brand new models of cars - as yet, the car isn't listed on insurance comparison websites, etc. If I want to keep my NCB then I'll have to stick with the current insurer, but it would be nice to get an idea of prices in general.

I'd be suprised if the mainstream insurance companys will have a clue until at least demo cars are registered

I am planning to modify the car, however this will be my first time in UK.
Do you guys got any recommendation about car insurance?

I just cancelled my GT86 Insurance with Greenlight who have been great. When they asked which car I'm moving to they said unfortunately they can't touch the GR86 (or the GR Yaris for that matter) due to the cars value. Its a £20-25k limit for them. Shame!
I'll be on the lookout for a few providers who allow a handful of mods to start with :)

I'll probably renew the vRS with Admiral again as long as it's not extortionate (they've always dropped with renewal for the last 8 years). A friend changed his car recently with them via the web portal and was seamless. I tried to do a quote for a GR86 and unsurprisingly they aren't in the system yet as an option. GR is though which is currently the Yaris so perhaps they'll see the 86 as a sub model of GR.

Currently with Need2Insure (https://www.need2insure.co.uk/) and on my current car I've got a mod list longer than my arm. :ROFLMAO:
Previously used Greenlight (https://www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk/)

Both were excellent, I only swapped from Greenlight to Need2Insure as I was offered a better trackday insurance deal.

Just to say thanks for this post, Need2Insure sorted me out with a policy including trackday cover for my modified GT86 for not much more than my existing policy renewal with Chris Knott (who have been very good too).
