GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

Yes communication hasn't been great, but given current market conditions, getting a car in 8/9 months is the norm these days.
That would be a perfectly reasonable position if some of the posters in this threads cars hadn’t been languishing in the U.K. for several months already. There is very clearly something amiss at TUK.

The “EU market” legislation/specs the U.K. cars fall under the umbrella of is also a nonsense excuse now given other countries in the EU are now delivering cars. Finally factor in the demo vehicles jurnos are running about in which we can only presume are taxed/type approved etc for U.K. roads.

The lack of transparency and timely updates by TUK and their marketing department is astounding. They will 100% know why these cars aren’t being delivered to customers and the lack of a simple and clear statement as to why is not a good look. Irrespective of people’s varying levels of emotional investment in the delivery of a model which will have been largely driven by irrational and impractical motives TUK cannot be unaware of what a shambles it looks.

The phrase about piss ups and breweries springs to mind….

Toyota U.K. has to be one of the UK’s worst companies for customer service. I mean they really aren’t bothered if they sell these cars to those with reservations. They really don’t care that they hacked their dealers off at the start of the process and have done just about everything possible to maintain radio silence with their customers over the last 9 months or so. Other than looking at an app that is about the limit of the buying experience. I have never known a worse company in 50 years of buying

My boss every day says "Any news on your car?" when I walk into the office after another wet ride in, soaking head to toe, then the same again going home. Today was insane and I was stupid for doing it. Every road was a river, a jetski would've been better. I'm getting fed up of it but all we can do is wait. Why they can't be transparent I have no idea. There's no need to be this hidden about things. No monthly updates unless you chase. It's beyond a joke now. I'm holding on as I have no other option and it's last of the breed. I'm really hoping ownership will be better than what this sh1t show has been.

The gr86 will probably account for less than half a percent of toyota sales this year, it’s not exactly going to be top of their priority list!

Maybe but we have seen how they operate over the last 9 months I wouldn’t buy another car from them. If it’s so small a percentage their processes should be able to swallow the workload without even blinking. If they were selling 10,000 GR’86’s a month then I accept they might operate as they currently do!

Steady Guys its only a car, there are a lot more important things going on in the Word at the moment.
The way Russia and North/South Korea are going about things there may be no world at all within a year!

Looks like I'll be joining the World's largest GR86 Carpark along with @Lindylou13 and the fellow Georgia Highway dockees...

Just FYI guys, I can see there's a lot of frustration once again because of the complete lack of info.
I've been back in touch with my contact at Toyota Europe. He's advised that he will endeavour to bring my (admittedly rather strongly worded) comments to whoever he's able to internally, in the hopes that we might receive some concrete information.
I will, of course, post anything I receive from him in here, if he's able to get anything from the brick wall that is Toyota Customer Relations.

On a side note, my car came in on the Georgia Highway today. It's now transitioned into "In Transit", so I'm now up to the stage where I'm going to start getting equally frustrated if we hear nothing from Toyota.

Just had an update to say that Eddie who does all the PDi’s for Toyota Direct sales has been off sick. He’s now back at work but there’s a global shortage of sponges and as the cars have been sitting around for months they are covered in bird cr*p. Still Mavis in direct sales is going down to Halfords at lunch time to bulk buy some T Cut and a few polishing clothes. Eddie reckons he should be able to clear two cars a day. They have advertised for additional help but no takers although local Albanians have a car cleaning business and reckon they could clear the backlog in 2 days

This sounds so plausible to me...

Errrrr My car was on the Georgia Highway, MyT hasn't updated/no email.......HARRUMPH
I didn't get an email, but got the update when logged into the "MyToyota" section of the Toyota Website. MyT app only updated itself after I "pulled down" to refresh it.

Compare Lotus to Toyota

"Dear XXX

As an important Emira customer I wanted to update you personally on your Emira order. In our last communication we shared the difficulties we are facing not only as an industry but here at Lotus.

In 2022 we have faced several unforeseen complications, and as a result we have not been able to ramp up Emira production in the way we had initially planned. This has been challenging but we are doing our very best to resolve the issues. As a result your Emira order has been delayed further, and I apologise for the frustration and disappointment I am sure you are feeling.

I can confirm your Emira is scheduled for production in September 2023. Moving forward, you will receive monthly updates on your Emira order including more detailed production timings. As your Emira completes the production process we will contact you directly to arrange and confirm your delivery date, provide more information regarding financial services, trade-in and insurance products that you may be interested in, as well as arranging the final handover with you.

We are pleased to confirm that you will be invited to get behind the wheel at the Emira test drive event, You will receive a separate invitation with more details about this next week. The Lotus team look forward to seeing you there.

Lastly, I want to finish by thanking you for being a valued Lotus customer and for your patience. Our dedicated Lotus Customer Care centre is on hand to answer any questions you may have. You can contact them by responding to this email, calling 03300 948 047.

Sincerely,

Geoff Dowding
Executive Director of Sales & Aftersales

Interesting and a good email.

Out of interest, when was your Emira originally due?

I had one on order for estimated November 22 delivery but decided to cancel thinking the GR86 was a bit more sensible and would be delivered sooner (ha!), so curious to hear how badly Emira delivery dates have been impacted?

This is a great video about the Emira and build process. Talks about delays towards the end.

Put a deposit down at launch then switched to AMG engine which of course delays it. I reckon this is 6/9 months behind my initial expectation. Communication has been good.

Toyota looks a bargain but as we all know comms has been dreadful. Don’t understand it really. Why go out of your way to antagonise your customers ?
