GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

I'm sure Mr Bothamley ( @GrayBoth ) meant no disrespect with the (now deleted) social media activity, but it was a little tone deaf/tin-eared wasn't it!

As my dearly-departed grandfather would have probably said (if social media existed in his day) - "read the bloody room before posting!"
So there's been someone presumably from Toyota here all along. Brave guy lol

My designated dealer is Crawley/Gatwick, wonder if I will get a call for a test drive soon!
Me too, Marshalls in Crawley.

I am pretty sure that the Toyota Press fleet is located in Crawley. I believe I read that on this forum.

No idea about test drives.. like you waiting for the call.

The big thing for me is that I want to see cars on the UK roads, whether that’s press cars, actual UK reviews, or just the PR cars knocking around. I’m more than happy to see them being posted on social media to get me excited.

I just don’t want to be ignored by Toyota and left in the dark when they know all we want is an honest update about the “issues”.
If they just started to have more transparency and stopped saying “European conditions” and gave us a better steer, we’d have a much better relationship with Toyota UK.

It does feel like the UK GR86's are on the verge of being in touching distance. If the Swiss and some Spanish cars are nearing delivery then the good news is any EU requirements have been met somewhere so the UK just needs to update our cars, for the ones delivered to the country its hopefully weeks not months now!

Mine is showing sitting in Derby and was ordered at 10:07. Missed a call from my nominated dealer, Steven Eagell Colchester, earlier in the week. Called them beack this morining and was told than my car would be ready for me to collect from them on 11th October. Told to concact Toyota Buy Online to sign finance documentation ahead of collection and mine is the first of the GR86 they are handling, and is the only one showing this "status" on their dealer system.

Can it really be true that I'm less than a fortnight away from getting my car?

Seems likely. The rumours have more of a "ring of truth" this time. A fix coming in line with cars, that were previously showing as awaiting delivery, doing a lap of the status (on the app) makes sense.

Yeah agreed, I want to see cars delivered and reviewed. Would just like a bit of an update on what's going on.

Not to piss on your chips, but I'm still a bit skeptical. We've seen before that dealers seem to have been left out the loop numerous times, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are working off old estimates.

I'm ever the pessimist though, so hope I'm wrong and you'll be seeing your car soon.

So you will be test driving your own car!

Had read Steven Seagal first and thought: wait, what?! 😄

Well, I am getting more and more excited since in the last few days there have been a few reports from different European countries that the car will be delivered soon. Mid October was the last ETA that I was able to see in the metadata. Seems that it could be true. There is still some uncertainty, but I'm sure it won't be long now.

Just in case my delivery date of 11th Ocotober is in fact true, I'm now hunting for insurance, since there'll be no driving without.

However, I can't find the GR86 on any insurer's website, inluding Toyota's own insurance quoting tool. GR comes up, but lists only the Yaris. GT86 is there too, but all the models are 2 litres.

I'd have thought the GR86 would be there by now. Then again, given how Toyota UK have managed the GR86 thing to date, perhaps my expectaions should be revised down.

I have noticed that it appears on comparison sites (both CompareTheMarket and MoneySupermarket), but when I did a search, there were no quotes available. I think @KobayashiMaru86 found a single quote via CTM, but it was an insurer no one's ever heard of, and it was extortionate (like £3k or something).

Toyota do give you 7 days cover to at least get it home. Hopefully by then the big names will have it on the books. It was a problem a friend had when he got his Dacia Duster when they first came out. His insurer at the time (Churchill) couldn't insure it as they didn't have it so he had to insure with whoever Dacia use which did sting him. This year he switched to Admiral who had it by then. I'm with them and only pay £194 on the vRS.

I think the Toyota drive away insurance is only 3 days. Not much time to find a quote if they are scarce. Hoping Chris Knott will cover, that's who I used for my GT86.
