GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

Anyone managed to get one to show up on any of the price comparison sites for insurance? Would like to try and get my ducks in a row before my alleged December delivery!
Nope. I've been trying every so often on Money Supermarket/Compare the Market, but there's still no option for GR86. I did try selecting "GR", but it was just the Yaris.
I did also try entering the reg no of one of the demo cars we've seen pictures off....on Askmid.com, it correctly identifies as a "TOYOTA GR86", but on comparison sites, they think it's a Camry or hybrid or something.

It's an interesting question though. When do brand new models become available in the insurance database?

Guys - following the confusion on here over the past few days, I've reached out to some contacts in Toyota. For those who don't know, I've been around Toyota clubs for almost 10 years, helped organise various events with Toyota UK, and worked with their social media/marketing teams while I owned a company in the past.
I have managed to get some correspondence from one particular contact who, unfortunately, has asked to remain nameless (mostly because he had a lot of his own complaints to share with me of his experience with getting Toyota company cars even).
This person isn't based in the UK, but Europe wide, and has a close connection to vehicle releases.
From his point of view (this is what I can share):
  1. He IS NOT aware of any further delays to the release timeline of the 86 in the UK, which would explain the additional month added to some ETAs. In his calendar, the release is still pencilled in as "end of September" for deliveries to dealers.
  2. He IS aware that people use the "inspect element" feature to get delivery dates, but has reiterated that this is not official information, is not accurate, and is not something that should be relied upon.
  3. He has made reference to the fact that ALL Toyota employees are given the power to halt production/processes if they see quality being compromised (maybe there's a reason he mentioned this? something he can't tell me maybe).
  4. I have requested that he raise a point with Toyota UK, that UK owners are desperate for some official communication on the delays - he ensures me that he will do what he can to get my feedback to the relevant people.
  5. He's shared the fact that he has had a similar experience to us with his own personal company car, with very limited communication via the Toyota app, he's been frustrated by it also and has a rough delivery date that falls at an inconvenient time.
I have asked for futher comms, as and when he receives it. I endeavour to share what I can with you guys, as and when he says I can share it. For now, perhaps it's a case of fingers crossed, don't take the ETA on the tracker 100% seriously, and in October contact your dealer, as the cars should be on their way to your dealer(s) after end of September.

Sorry I can't give you any more, but I hope this helps to some extent.
Ross

Thanks for that Ross. Here's hoping he's right :)

Many thanks for this, very useful and good to know.

Agree the MyT cant be too relied on, my car went from factory to Portbury over a weekend yet been travelling to Derby for 4 weeks ;)
Any earlier than Nov is just a bonus at the moment, but would be nice to work out roughly when to start trying to sell my car that the GR replaces

I emailed "customer relations" (not the online team) again.... "Unfortunately, it is possible there may be a delay to the delivery of vehicles for customers who were expecting their vehicles in October." So that seems to confirm what DevTools says.

They say they are planning an update at the end of September still so please can whoever is the chosen one for that communication share it on here... communicating to everyone with a car at Derby at the same time is still beyond them, I did ask🙄

Also, in response to asking for cars sat for 5-6 months to be properly detailed they said no. So it'll be swirled electric blue with pearlescent poo if I decide to prolong this awesome experience.

I’ve just made it to derby!

Well, "officially" I wasn't expecting my vehicle in October. "Officially" I have actually only been told September, when I emailed back in July to ask for an update.

Sigh. Dunno what to expect. Perhaps I should just give up and expect it 2023 earliest, then it will be nice if it comes before Christmas.

FYI, Toyota probably doesn't import the GR86 itself, Subaru does it. For the UK, the import is handled by I.M.GROUP LTD..
In Germany by Subaru Deutschland GmbH. The correct recoding of the vehicle takes place in the destination country (because they are supposedly imported as Subaru GR86)... maybe that's the reason for the lack of communication.

A proactive update email from Toyota!! ...but I mean, what is the actual point in sending somethig so horrendously pointless. They've clearly been passed feedback that people need an update and this is the crap they come up with

Got the same

This delay is effecting the whole of Europe as the vehicles now need to meet the new European conditions.

Which one's............why............when............🤬

No email received so far, but at least it is some communication I suppose.

The fact that there is no offical ETA speaks volumes. Looks like 2023 for the first deliveries is probably a likely reality...

Just received the above email. The new language used, European conditions as opposed to market conditions, certainly seems to indicate they are having to retrofit something to the car to be compliant with safety/emissions regs.

Bit of a downer considering the hope that came with the earlier revelation that there was no issue and cars were on track for an October delivery.

Of course, all remains speculative.

Also received the same

I can only assume that many others are now receiving or have just received the same "doesn't actually explain anything" email from Toyota. I mean I appreciate them emailing me for the first time in about 3 months, but this stinks of PR tell them something without actually telling them anything.

What does "european conditions" even mean?

I'm grateful to actually hear something. Yeah ok they aren't going into any technical detail but at least there are some comms and acknowledgement of as to why there is a delay.

Maybe they all came with secondary cats instead of GPFs, who knows could be anything, doesn't really matter to me.

I got this email earlier.

—————-

We are just getting in touch to let you know the latest on your GR86 order.

Whilst we were hoping to have vehicles released towards the end of September we have now been advised that there is a continuation in the hold for deliveries. This delay is effecting the whole of Europe as the vehicles now need to meet the new European conditions.

At the moment, we do not have any confirmed dates. As soon as we can provide more details and update you further on the progress we will do.

I apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

I haven't received that email. MyT is showing order processing for me so perhaps the email has been sent only to those people with a car in the UK?

Also, note the email says "new European conditions". Does that give any insight into the reason for the delay?
