GR Yaris GR Yaris versions - The Full Monty

There has also been a weird ’box’ in place of infotaiment screen on one GRMN. No clue what it was in detail. Looked like a old vhs slot ..
namely this. maybe a storage box?
video from which it was captured

Good work!

You mention the Rallye has the silver stitching option, in fact on order you could (if your dealer let you see the screen) specify 'red or silver seats' which made no sense... it made the seats sound like they were type R red! lol. This was of course really the stitching colour and 'ghosted' in the fabric... and, AFAIK no silver was ever delivered with a Rallye as the red was part of the model design. There shouldnt have been the option really, it was understood that this was 99% a mistake on the order system. I was tempted to order the silver to see what would happen but didnt and the dealer told me later there was no silver option and Ive never seen a used Rallye for sale with 'silver seats'. But, well... maybe there is?!?!

Some background about new car selling in Aus: In Aus (as generally a small market) many cars are delivered in 2 specs; poverty and lux. Has been this way for many many years. We dont have the infinite 'spec it up' lists that UK/EU etc get. This is usually so that importers can order a bunch of the same cars in random colours and get them in and not have to specially order one 'just for you as you wanted the optional rear cup holders and moon roof added to a base model' lol This meant in the old days that cars could be stocked and sold without long delays (build plus very long shipping if coming from EU/UK etc) and simplified the order / delivery process.

Thats how the Rallye was born I think; In the old style of Aussie car selling, ie >2021. Ie Importer creates a model with as much of the fruit they think they need (and the factory allows) and then says 'Lets order 500' or some larger number they think they can sell. The factory could prune this down and once set they would call this their 'allocation'. For the Rallye, they reserved the pearl white paint as the only option for this model from the outset I reckon, that why it wasnt an option on the non Rallye. They saw the success of the UK / EU circuit packs and picked pretty much the JDM RZ model's spec but bizarrely removed the IC spray... maybe its a problem to have that for the Aussie Design Rules now or something? I know that for sure they would have felt that they couldnt remove reverse camera and nav for a more exy model plus most cars have those here now, so these would have stayed in etc. They also created a bit of a buzz by citing history and having the new more exy model hark back to the Aussie only Celica Rallye which was numbered, so this model was too. The rest is history; the car sells out and has a long waiting list etc etc etc.

Fast forward to late 2022 and there is a (final?) batch of 160 orders allowed of GRY as ToyAus report they have a secured further allocation. I reckon at HQ they understand that most of these will be Rallye spec... but they are over getting plaques made so these will not get any more of them - maybe theyve used all the ones they ordered now?* You could also order any colour you liked, no more Rallye is only pearl white... but I believe this is a catch - and also a 'catch all'! Thats cos they didnt need to offer this to drive sales, they would sell out anyway, not least as the price was the same as the 2021 models and every other car (competitor and ToyAus' own) had gone up 10% by then etc. What i think happened was that the factory couldnt guarantee the supply of cars in only pearl white, which makes me wonder if these 160 cars were actually cancelled orders and already slated for (and were close to) production and parts/paint ordered already, even tho not actually build (small adjustments to production only allowed)... No proof of that, just thinking out loud... Anyway, allowing people to order all colours and both models and knowing it'd be oversubscribed (it was only 1 car per metro, not rural, dealers), they could just match cars with orders and be done... and that's what happened. There were no spare cars it seems, none have been offered for sale anyway. Toyota also tried to remove scalping with the last 160 cars... and failed. Of course.

* - When my car landed it was delayed for delivery 'as something was missing', In hindsight I realise that my number is >500 and I believe they only originally ordered 500 Rallye plaques so they had to order another batch. These took time to come in (twas covid times) and be applied to cars in the importers yard. Now then... how many plaques did they order we wonder? These plaques were allocated at random so its hard to know, there are some 8XX numbers i think shown on the Fb forum, but maybe not as many as 1000? Time will tell i guess... we need to watch the used sales cars, but I suspect they ran out of plaques with the previous orders/allocation and decided for the last 160 cars that they would/could not order a small amount of plaques (MOQ issue? etc) and so sold them without... this 'lesser spec' (LOL) and potential for non pearl white (tho some are) actually making them the rarest of the models in Aus... Haha... lets not go there...
