GR Yaris GR-Yaris Rally2

Not to mention the fact that one of the first racing team that adopted the GRY Rally2 is RedGrey team, run by a much famous Ott... :D
The fresh winner of Rally Estonia, Georg Linnamae, is one of its best drivers.
Red grey is 3km from my house 😉 They are also looking after the Japanese Toyota WRC Challenge drivers. Plenty of cool stuff to see when driving by like recce cars outside.

Photo from TGR Facebook of the shell being prepped. Nice big cut out for those rear arch extensions!

Really cool article, thanks for sharing it. I love the look of the rally 2 cars, much preferred to rally 1
I agree with that. Someone correct if Im wrong but the Rally1 cars are space frame cars which are just made to resemble their street versions. The Rally2 one actually uses stuff from the street car. The engine being probably the most notable one.

True. Hopefully, with the proposed ditching of hybrid in 2026 they could go back to road car chassis if crew safety can remain the same as in Rally1.

Correct. The rally 1 still has to use the bonnet, doors, rear hatch and a few other bits from the road car on its space frame though.

Don't know if it was already posted here but I found this cool article talking about the differences between the road and the Rally2 car. Some pictures about it too.
Thanks for sharing - the article makes me wanting to go for a ride, but it‘s Monday morning…. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't believe that is true. My understanding, in fact, is that the Rally1 car can even be scaled up or down from the road car. I think they _can_ use production body panels, but they're not required to. I believe the Puma is scaled down for Rally1 and the GR Yaris is scaled up for Rally1. I am having trouble finding a good reference for this right now, but I'll include a screenshot below.

WRC, the rule set that the GR Yaris was originally aimed at, required retaining the frame, roof, doors, hood, and hatch (you'll notice this includes the aluminum and carbon bits) while the suspension, drivetrain, and fenders could be changed.

This screenshot is from a search I did-- when I click on the link I don't get the actual article and I can't check web.archive.org on this machine.

I know there are some changes in the works to the Rally1 regs, but I'm not aware that this has changed yet, or that it is likely to.

I remember an interview with Elfyn Evans at FOS running through the similarities to the Rally1 with the road car and he mentioned that the hatch and bonnet being the same. Also from the Hyundai motorsport website;

IIRC from TGR visit the windscreen shape was similar to Road going GR Yaris, all the else is more or less bespoke. so not so much same parts.

its very much revised chassis even though its of course based on serial production car. the strut mounts and roll cage are quite something.
Would be very nice to see detailed spec of Rally2 engine, how its build etc. Maybe we should book a meeting to Cologne?

I was looking at trying to visit the TGR Cologne museum while in Germany the last few weeks, dates did not work out though.. I did manage to do Porsche/BMW/Audi museums mind. I would be up for a meet up any cologne if one was arranged.
