GR Yaris GR-Yaris Rally2

One more from me! I wonder if we'll be able to buy that front grille to replace ours when needed?!
I'm just not sure why they gave it only half the intercooler though

I'm sure there is some perfectly sane reason, I'm not a motorsport engineer.

Coolers sit besides each other rather then stacked, makes them more efficient and relatively smaller/lighter, also the deep ducted opening makes for higher pressure and flow through the coolers. But not suitable for easy series production. Something like that.

Only confirmed by 👂🧏
And have we had it confirmed this is using our 3 cyl engine? Didn't see that mentioned anywhere? Is there a spec sheet yet?
I think it is quite evident, even though it has not(?) been officially listed anywhere. Sophisticated ears tell their story that there is something else beating than high compression I4.
What boost and rev limit they have used - no idea. but I like the sound it makes. much more beefy than other Rally2 cars. Based on how it picks bigger gears during acceleration I'd say it has some torque, and for rally driving it is rather nice thing.

Yeah I adore the sound, it’s great. Really hoping to see some of these more widely in the coming years (ideally forests in the UK) and makes a nice alternative to all the Fiestas.

at least the concept car has beefy mud flaps vs. Rally1 thinny ones.

little bit old news but still interesting:
According TGR press release that was already posted here (just didn't notice this detail before)
- Norihiko Katsuta and Yusuke Kimura will compete in the GR Yaris-based GR YARIS WR Concept(tentative name, now known as Rally2 concept car), which is currently under development, and
- Tomoyuki Shinkai and Yuichi Ando will compete in the GR YARIS GR4 DAT Rally, which is equipped with a next-generation sports automatic transmission (DAT) that is also currently under development, to hone the cars and their major components.

So Taka's father will test the Rally2 concept car in Japanese Rally series, whereas Shinkai & Ando are testing the automatic transmission to be used (?) in new GR Yaris

... the GR Yaris Rally2 Concept, which aims to further increase Toyota’s involvement in customer motorsports. Developed with knowledge gained from the company’s participation in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), the model looks like a proper race-ready rally car.

The concept will serve as the basis for the GR Yaris WR Concept (tentative name), which will be used to compete in the Japanese Rally Championship to better hone the final vehicle that customers with motorsports teams can purchase. This will still be some time away, as Toyota says it is aiming to obtain homologation in January next year.
