When my son or I am a passenger in the 86, the glove box is quite close to our knees. I've banged my knees on it a few times.

We're both 6'3".

Are there any options for removing it or slimming it down to free up space in the cabin with making it look awful?

I'm 6'2" and have no problems while sitting in passenger seat (apart from gripping the seat tightly when 6'5" son drives). I suppose it's all down to length of thigh bone?

I don't have passengers often but it is an annoying design "feature" and I can see it can be uncomfortable for larger people. I'm sure someone on this forum actually modded their dash and got rid of it

The whole glove box can unhook it self and be popped out but then you would be left with an exposed area where you can then easily get access to the cabin filter whenever you want.

Yes, it's mind bogglingly stupid.
Especially if you have the misfortune of having two passengers that aren't Para-Olympians. The front passenger needs to scoot forward and inveriably bashes into it at scratches it, then moans that they aren't uncomfortable.

The contour then thoughfully carries along to to make sure it makes it fractionally harder for the driver to get in and out too.

I bet its because of a focus group, it's always a focus group.

Someone probably showed a group of bored housewives a GT-86 and they said "the dash looks too flat" another piped up "I always need a big glove box, Tarquin gets travel sick so I need to keep 27 packets of wet wipes".... "and while I'm at it I'd like to be able to easily open the centre console with my elbow at all times"

"What I really miss from my old Defender was smashing my knee on the sticky-out bit of the dashboard every time I get out, so I think we should add that."
