GR Yaris For those that supplied their own oil?

I supplied my own oil, but not to save. My motive was to ensure that mine got the correct oil!
I asked my dealer's staff twice specifically what oil they were going to use and twice they were unable/unwilling to tell me. This led me to believe that they didn't know and didn't care so I asked if it was OK to bring my own and was told that this was OK.

Which was fine until I turned up with the car and some Full Synth SP/GF6, that's when a shit storm started about it even though that spec is superior to the SN+ they intended to use (but were unable to tell me about initially).

It's been resolved now but I could have done without the hassle.

The problem appears to be that my manual, and the oil filler cap specifies SP/GF6 but Toyota is having trouble getting this with their packaging and in small quantities. They do have SN+ though and Toyota UK seems to be fudging the issue with a tech bulletin which recommends SN+.

My bill was reduced from £190 to £120 because they didn't supply the oil, but the oil cost about £55.

There might be a general problem with sourcing SP here though.
My first choice was the Petronas one, ordered it but what arrived was SN+, there was no Petronas SP in the country! So they sent a substitute, which I had to return.

Would I bother again? Not now I know that they are using SN+, but I would hope that by next year Toyota UK will have sorted out their supply of SP.

How much was the oil you supplied?

Bought the oil a while back taking advantage of an Opie Oils / ebay deal.

Millers engine oil was approx £30 and the Fuchs gearbox oil approx £20 in total, was cheap at the time.

How much did you save?
Saved nothing in the short term, as:

Total of what I paid to Toyota for the service (discounted by the cost of their oil, as I supplied mine)
+
What I paid for the aftermarket oil (Ravenol)
=
Price Toyota had quoted for the service using their oil.

However, I got a much better quality oil and this is also likely to save me money in the long run.

I ordered Petronas 7000, 0 20, DME which is SP and GF6, as per the filler cap and my manual :)
But what arrived was 7000 DMX SN+! It transpired that there was no DME in the country and Petronas reckoned that DMX was OK!!!! (The DME spec sheets are dated 22/3/22) After a phone call to the supplier a return and refund was agreed.

I ended up getting LiquiMoly Special Tec AA, SP & GF6 which is what started the shit storm at the dealer.

I am sure that there are supply problems with 0-20 SP & GF6 oil generally and in particular for Toyota UK getting it in small cans + Toyota branded!
All this has led to fudging via a technical bulletin recommending their branded SN+. This bulletin is being taken much too seriously by my dealer and others, it's causing confusion and conflict 😬
