Mine is being locked away soon so no running over the winter.
I’m sticking with the 0w20 for the time being.
I too may tuck GR away during any bad winter months.... As long as oil meets API SP and is high quality then either 0w20 or 5w30 is ok in the U.K.

Hey guys,
Anyone here who tracks (or not) the car, using 5w40 grade oil? Looking to step up the game for next season. Car is DD + pushed on track, I do have oil cooler.

Was thinking Ravenol, but their recommendation ends at 5w30 to our cars, page is not showing any results for 5w40 products.

There wont be any recommended 40 weight oil… I recommend going Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30, it is a very thick 30 weight, so may consider it as a 40 weight oil. It hold viscosity pretty well and you should be fine with that especially if you run oil cooler.

If you are keen on 40 weight oil, pick low to mid SAPS which can be hard to find. I think Mobil 1 has some mid SAPS 0W-40.

Here is a follow up to my oil analysis experiments... While 1 oil analysis won't tell you the whole story, it is clear that the wear stabilised.

Key takeaway here is, how the FA24 is harsh on the oil, look how much the oil sheared down in just 3k road miles. This is the main reason why I won't run xW-20 oil in my car anymore... even during shortened oil change interval, your oil could shear down to dangerously low levels. I know it takes double flush to get all the old oil out of the engine, so the low viscosity is partly caused by the leftovers of 20 weight oil in the pan/engine. Also I haven't experienced noticeable oil consumption on the 5W-30, which couldn't really be said about the 20 weight oil.

Sample: Motul 8100 Eco-Lite 5W-30
Type of use: No track days, spirited driving, autobahn runs, mountain runs.

3168 mi / 5100 km on oil
6151 mi / 9900 km on car

Translation of the subjective interpretation of the technician: "increased silicon content indicates a possible dust leak into the oil. Reduced oil viscosity (possible fuel leak into the oil). The values of the other measured parameters are normal. We recommend changing the filter and checking at a reduced interval."

here's my latest result of used oil analysis

Sample: Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30
Type of use: 2 trackdays, spirited hard driving

3300 km on oil
13200 km on car

I am really happy with the viscosity retention. I am staying with Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 for now.

I've decided to stick to my run of 6 monthly oil changes. I don't do many miles, but the journeys that I do are usually either short, or spirited, so the oil is getting a lot of heat cycles for the mileage that it does.

Going for miller's 0w30 this time to retain the cold characteristics but give a bit more viscosity at higher temps now that the car is mapped.

What's the lee-way with servicing in terms of mileage, out of interest? Need to book in the 30k service but don't know what limits there are on being exact. My last service was at 19,500 miles so do I need to do the next by 29,500? Dealer service.
