I had my first maintenance on my YARIS GR Gen 2 after one year and 7000 km . The told me they made a firmware upgrade. I saw the dashboard on RPM meter some color changes. I had a red line from 5000 to 8000 rpm before and now I have an orange line from 4000 to 6000 rpm and then red up to the end . When you run over 4000 rpm from zero to actual rpm becomes orange and where I have the gear N is flashing in orange . This is annoying me quite a lot . Do you know any other features of this firmware update ?

The software was primarily to fix a black screen that had been reported as an issue on some corollas. This did also fix being able to keep the tyre pressure display after engine off and restart.

Are you sure those new colors / ranges don’t normalize after the engine has reached 70C?
Before that, it’s just a protective feature.
No before was :

Thats interesting... had my recall service done ~2 months ago, I'll check the the RPM meter if it is same as yours.

As @Norbi says this is most likely just warming up and the flashing is a warning to be careful as the oil isn't fully warmed.

In the first pic the oil is at 18C and the redline is below 5k. And rightly so (personally I would not rev my car above 3k in this situation)

In the second pic the oil is at 53C and there is a yellow warning zone between 4-6k where the red line starts.

At these temps on Gen1 the usual "avoid excessive acceleration due to temperature" is still active.

It might be annoying but I don't see why this is a problem. Does it still do it when everything is fully warmed? At least 70C as suggested.

I think Toyota have changed the behaviour to make the warning more noticeable on Gen2, which can only be a good thing, no? 🤷‍♂️
