Fiesta ST MK6 / ST150

Check engine mounts, especially the one on the top off side. Every XR4 (ST150) I have seen had a split mount. I make new ones because zero availability but you guys can probably buy something over there. Also common here is central locking issues. The door mounted actuators play up and won't let the system lock. A real pita to change. Hard to get parts here too.

So i've had the full exhaust system replaced.

I picked up a full system but later found the centre section was de-cated and the cat-back I didn't like
I also picked up the Mountune cat-back

Miltek 4 in 1 manifold > custom sport cat centre section > Mountune cat-back

I didn't realise it but the car already had a Miltek down pipe so I can sell that on.

We cut the old flexi and flange off the Miltek manifold and replaced with new flexi and v-band coupling. The centre section was done as straight without bends as there was sufficient clearance, and due to the shorter cat back of the Mountune a small angle to accommodate this.

Here is the person that did the work, I was really impressed

For reference Mongoose and Mountune cat backs are after the slight bend on the centre section, Miltek and Scorpion cat back are longer and include this small bend.

Really happy with the outcome, its loud at 1/2 throttle and above but cruises at 70mph without drone or much sound at all, in fact if you drive below 1/3 throttle it's as quiet as stock with windows up. I think its made the induction louder if that's possible (maybe on valve overlap?). Next step is the ST170 brakes which I've sent the carriers away for blasting. Ready to paint.

While the car was in the air I had a check of the rust, It's looking better than I thought, I may start considering some underbody treatment

Then onto fitting the MR200 Manifold

For reference the exhaust tip is central its just the angle I've taken the photo at

Here is me painting the inlet to make it more visually appealing. I did the yellow by dropping paint into the casting. I used Airfix paint. Yellow and black is the final outcome

Nice work buddy!
I will continue to enjoy seeing more progress!
I've abandoned my idea of finding a nice Mk6 as I have always loved them but now I'm in too deep with my journey to M400 with the RS lol  🤑 🙈

Apparently they are actually starting to command a bit of premium the old fiesta and same is true for the parts, so I’m glad I started when I have

M400 is a beast

Treated the car to some new mats, the interior now smells good.

And I’ve booked in for the MR200 map for June 🥳🤩

But since I’ve had the exhausts I’m super impressed already with the acceleration past 3,500rpm. I know it sounds crazy but 2nd and 3rd feel not to far removed from my old mk7 ST (at high rpm, not midrange) I reckon the Yaris in the gear above wouldn’t be able to lose the fiesta. I suspect the Mk6 ST has pretty short ratios which is giving this illusion.

Upgraded the brakes to ST170 (same as ST150 but caliper carrier spaces the caliper out more so bigger discs front and rear) and painted blue.

New discs and pads and complete change of brake fluid.

The wheels need a refurb but I’m happy with the brakes now. Bonus rear brake disc cost £6.59! Had an issue with the handbrake cables so I’ve replaced them as well.

Really easy to paint the calipers, probably not something I’d do myself with the GR, as the finish isn’t fantastic.

We didn't get the ST170 and only a few Mondeos had those callipers so I made new mounts to space the stock callipers and take a 300mm ish (?) rotor. We were limited by running 16s. Otherwise I would have thrown R33 callipers on it and bigger rotors as I did for the Mk II esky.

Yer 300mm, easy to do in UK. Yep I’be semi limited my wheel choice either go 16” for definite clearance or try and get some 15” that fit (cheaper track day tyres in 15”)

Fitted the wheels I bought last year. Had to get some alternative nuts which have more thread engagement

A bit late... Found this pic while looking for something else... Forgot I fitted up the R33 callipers for one track event. It would just fit under 17s, which we had to run for stock size, with a spacer, cannot recall the offset, wasn't too crazy, they were borrowed from something else. 320 or 330mm rotors. Did a 24 hour with this set up. Didnt need to change pads. Went back to the stock callipers and new mounting bracket to run 16s. Enough brakes for street sprints.

Nice, yer I can imagine you barely used them.

So #2 bought himself a commuter / fun car.

A lot of km but body in great condition with a quality repaint a couple of years ago. Some trim bits and light lenses needed attention but with the odds and sods left from the track car and spare chassis that was sorted. Headlights will get the treatment and we will repurpose a couple of Recaro seats for the front. Wheels are bad and some Sparco Assetto Gara in 16x7 are on their way to meet up with some 205/45 semi slick rubber. And the usual top engine mount and shifter cable fixes...
Made this today, pic fresh from pour before bubbles were nuked. Another day in the jig then into the oven for 48 hours at 75C.

Plans include ST170 front brake mounts and larger rotors, strut brace and rear sway bar and extractors and exhaust upgrade with a pod filter feeding a 2.3 throttle body.

As #2 just happens to have an unused new 2.0 duratec with better rods and pistons and fasteners that was going into the MkII Escort that seems destined to get bigger cams and ITB for a future fit in the XR4. And we have a Mazda 3mps 6 speed and lsd that might get diverted there too.

Bit of an update on my son's black XR4.
Picked up some Mk3 Mondeo/X type front calipers and the final bits and pieces to get the car legally on the road done on the weekend, driveshaft seal and rear wheel bearing, which was pretty sad and fell apart without any help.

Swapped coilpack and leads from the spare engine to cure a slight misfire. Fitted a bigger throttle body and better inlet on Friday as well.

Waiting on some braided lines and caliper kits before doing the brake change.
However something that has been an issue on all 10 or so cars I have seen / worked with has been the washer bottle reservoir cap. Not sure if this is an issue in Europe but here the caps crack and fall off and are generally replaced with something from a juice or milk container. As shown in the pic above! Anyways I made a cap from some aluminium stock for the track car and the newly acquired XR4 needed one too. Then my mechanic mate bought a blue XR4 on Friday so I made a couple from some 50mm 6000 series barstock.

The fluted one will go on the black XR4 and is just test fitted on the blue one here. The blue car gets the fancier of the two knurled caps. And the washers are for the brake upgrade as a trial fit suggested the caliper is offset about 1.5mm but without actually drilling out the hub they may or may not be needed. Web suggests they are necessary. Anyway 1.5 and 2.5mm spacers are ready to go.

A testimony of how good these are... our track XR4 has sat at my place, out in the open for a bit over a year. No one was racing it and I was using the GR. Two weekends ago I charged the wee battery in the back, hosed it off and took it into the workshop for an oil and filter change, brake flush and general look over. It did a day of sprints with #2, his boss and finally me trashing the living daylights out of it. Never missed a beat. Drove off the trailer, raced it, drove it back on. Didn't open the bonnet. Tyres now are totally shagged and will need replacements before the next day in a couple of weeks. Great little thing. Probably grab some AR1s.

Not sure if anyone is interested but a bit of a rejuvenation on the track car. Fitting up some itbs. Spare motor helps. Cut down the Ford throttle body to make an actuator and mounted that below the itbs. Linkage on its way. Had to bore the trumpets to suit as they were on some 40DCOEs and fitted a pillow block bearing to support the actuator shaft. Waiting on a filter backing plate from the UK and the solid linkage. From there it is onto the car ready for tuning.

Spent about 3 hours making a jig to hold the trumpets and 20 mins machining them!

Last two sprints of the year coming up and tyres were shot so time for new. Nankang AR-1s going on. Took the opportunity to drop the rotors out for a skim and new pads. And a bleed of the brake lines.

I won't talk about the 2 hours it took me to remove a rounded off caliper bracket bolt.

Finally got time and access to the hoist to install the itbs. AC and heater coming out too. Bits I machined up using the spare engine fitted pretty well but I had to trim a couple of bits to fit around the power steering pump that wasn't on the engine and a bracket on the starter which also wasn't on the engine. New pulleys on hand for the shorter belt run. Test fire and all ok.

#2's XR4 had a bit done this week, it had a slight misfire. Injector clean and rebuild, a brake upgrade and power steering reservoir relocation. Turned out to be a faulty coil pack.

ST170 rotors and Xtype Jag calipers and mounts. Rebuild kit ex UK!

And the very needed power steering reservoir relocation. Simple bracket which also lifts the coil pack for a bit more cooling. I was very disappointed that I couldn't do the cut outs with the bandsaw but setting it up in the mill after bending wasn't worth the effort so many manual filings later.

Brakes have bedded in nicely, bigger piston area means more pedal travel but ok and braking is much improved. Misfire cured.
