GR86 Exhausts

So much talk about different exhausts that I'm wondering; is anyone here happy with the OEM exhaust system/tone? I mean, are we just being a bit picky by spending big lumps of cash on another exhaust or is the OEM sound fit-for-purpose albeit a bit quiter?
Let's open the floor to those 'keeping it standard' for their opinion - I'm interested to hear if it means I'll save a few quid, especially as the wife rather pointedly asked yesterday "You're not going to waste more money on this new car with a stupid exhaust are you?" I remained silent for my own safety ..

I am happy with the OEM... But I have only recently passed the magic 1000 miles, so have yet to really experience the full rev range.

I have changed two exhausts for noisier ones in the past. My experience is that they generally drone at some point in the rev range. It’s unlikely I’ll be changing it on the GR.

Obviously the oem is for for purpose. But if you like your car to sound sporty, you'll want something else. My DW isn't happy I'm getting the car, and would be less happy if it sounded loud, so I'll stick to oem, even though if like a nice sounding exhaust.

Yeah, this. It'll do, it's my least favourite thing about the car.

If any of the exhaust options blew me away then I'd be more tempted, but I don't think any make the car sound great... unless you add UEL headers as well. So I will most likely will leave as is.

I'll be disconnecting the noise generator once SWMBO hears it... She sat in the car but didn't want to come out for a drive... I know she'll hate the sound

Have you driven one? There is no exhaust sound.

Considering black exhaust tips [PTR03-18220-AA 86 Exhaust Tip Fin Black] - don’t need a louder exhaust but prefer the aesthetic.

Before I get ahead of myself need to check the PTR03-18220-AA 86 will fit the UK GR86 and just as important, that the factory fit OEM tips are of the “bolt-on-bolt-off” variety - if they are welded this option will be a non-starter.

Can any existing owners provide some insight please?

There's nothing really wrong with the OEM system except that it's almost inaudible.

I was initially hoping I could keep my standard as I first thought the synthesised sounds in the speakers were quite good, but after a while I grew tired of it and there just isn't any sound at all from the exhaust. For me the car got significantly more fun to drive with an aftermarket exhaust, just like all my previous cars.

I painted the original tips with black spray paint, worked well until I replaced the whole exhaust.

I also don't like drone, so I was pleasantly surprised with the AWE touring exhaust which as no drone at all thanks to its helmholtz design.

I quite like the sound of the AWE Touring but the Cold Start seems really harsh!? Also the price is expensive compared to the likes of a Cobra or Milltek.

@Cholmondeley-Biscuitt im not an avid modder and was a bit apprehensive going for a fruity exhaust but I’m glad that I did. It simply makes the car more enjoyable and arguably easier to drive. I’ve got the Remark axle-back (thanks for S18RSG) which looks great, is very good value and extremely well made. Cold starts are loud but not insane (maybe a bit louder from outside than a flaps open cold start on my previous B58-powered car) and while there is a little drone at some rpm/load combos it’s not an issue when cruising at normal road speeds.

Can confirm it's great. I had doubts initially but for the cost I gave it a go and thought if it's too much I'd take it off for longer trips. I did Scotland in it no issue and now it's never coming off. Passenger even slept.

Less than £500 for the axle back as all I wanted was noise and to be able to hear the car as I still like to drive a car by ear rather than looking at a rev counter. But without the need to mess about with the rest while it's still in warranty etc. Got it from Funky Power but they are doing discount for GRZoo people. Say you're from here and Ross recommended you and it will be less. It's gone up a bit since Ross and even I got mine with inflation.
