GR86 Exhausts

Milltek resonated now fitted. I knew I wanted something better than the standard exhaust which just seems too quiet for the car, but didn’t want to go too loud as I use my car daily. I was tempted with the Cobra resonated, but then I spotted the Milltek resonated with £250 off. Love the look of it, and it’s pretty much the sound I was after. I managed to find a friend with access to a ramp, so swapped it with his help. Took a couple of hours, hardest bit was lining up the tips to look the same on both sides.

Not sure this does it justice as the iPhone mic isn’t brilliant:

Not wishing to piss on your chips, but when fitted to GT86, they had a reputation for cracking welded joins. Just something to keep an eye on. Sounds good though

Yeah, I’ve seen that, but you only hear from the people with problems, not the ones who don’t, so I’m hoping I’ll be fine.

I've heard of the cracking from different cars that had them fitted, not just a single car. That suggests they had an inherent problem. Maybe they fixed it.

Miltek have reported they have fixed the issue, but by that point the reputation within the GT86 community of cracking had set so not many people bought them by that point. Please keep us updated Nick on your experience, I would like to get one in the future once remapping is an option and pair it with a set of UEL headers so its not extremely loud.

I'm very happy with it so far (I know it's not been long yet though). I love the way it looks, and it's giving me enough extra (and nicer) sound to know I've changed it, but it's not too loud and I haven't heard it droning yet (or not enough to make me notice). @SmokingPancakes I know you're local to me and got your car from the same dealer, so I'm sure we could meet up somewhere if you want to check it out. I'll be at Caffeine & Machine next Sunday for 86 day, so if you're around you'll see/hear my car there.

Hi All
can anyone advise on what the additional insurance costs are on the exhausts. I am with LV at the moment and thinking about the Miltek after hearing Nicks today

I’m with Admiral, it didn’t make a difference as I added it at the same time as I renewed. For me the quote was the same with or without.

After hearing @S18RSG Remark Exhaust at Bicester today, I'm tempted to get one as it looks easy to fit (and fit the OEM one back come MOT time if needed)
Am I correct in assuming that the "Double wall" tip version just looks a tad more OEM as the walls are thicker?

Thanks for the chat @S18RSG - hope the dogs didn't get too much hair over your GR :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I think they ended up with 3 revisions in the end, still suffer from the same failures. People just stopped buying them.

Thanks Nick that’s good to hear. The cracking reports are stressing me a bit. On the plus side it has a lifetime warranty and I had them on my car years ago with no issue.
Also hoping that people like litchfield and Fensport would not be selling them if they were forever breaking. All the online reports of cracking are from pre 2017 that I can see.

Glad to finally meet you mate!

Yes, the double wall version that I have has the outer wall of the tip, then a bend and a seperate inner wall. The single wall is a larger tip because it's just like a slash cut pipe with the same diameter as the outer wall.

Car managed to stay miraculously clean for much of the day. Me and the lady with the AMG GTS spent an embarrassing amount of time cleaning water marks after the multiple episodes of rain!

I'm with Churchill and there was no extra premium charged and no admin fee for letting them know - which was unexpected

Looking at the Miltek, did people go for resonated or non resonated options?

Also wondered who people have got them fitted through? There’s a couple of authorised fitters around Oxford but not advertised on their individual websites

I went for the resonated - I didn't want it too loud as the car is used as my daily driver. I can't help with fitters I'm afraid as I did it myself with a friend who works at a garage.

I haven’t got mine yet, but fear that the standard will be lacklustre. It’s a daily driver for me as well but just want something a little bit fruity.

Are you happy with it?

I am, there are much louder out there, but I didn't want drone or to be waking up the neighbourhood everytime I leave the house. It's a big improvement over the standard exhaust still though for me. I'd live with the standard for a bit first, it will help you appreciate more the difference when/if you do swap it. I've only had it a few weeks, and have done about 500 miles with it on, but yes I'm happy with it so far. Others love the Remark axle back, which does sound good and a few hundred £ less, but that's a bit loud for me. Also, as it's a cat back exhaust it feels like its giving me a slight power increase (that might all be in my head though).

On my might mod list 👍

Did you discuss with your dealer their view on if this may affect warranty at all? Or not worried.

Also curious to know if you turned the piped sound off in the cabin now?

Thanks for sharing, great photos before and after.

Didn’t discuss it with the dealer, it’s a cat back exhaust, I doubt it’d be an issue, but have the original if I needed to put it back on. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to turn off the fake sound this weekend, it only really kicks it at higher rpm though, so isn’t urgent to do.

Thanks. Enjoy. Sounds great 👍

So much talk about different exhausts that I'm wondering; is anyone here happy with the OEM exhaust system/tone? I mean, are we just being a bit picky by spending big lumps of cash on another exhaust or is the OEM sound fit-for-purpose albeit a bit quiter?
Let's open the floor to those 'keeping it standard' for their opinion - I'm interested to hear if it means I'll save a few quid, especially as the wife rather pointedly asked yesterday "You're not going to waste more money on this new car with a stupid exhaust are you?" I remained silent for my own safety ..
