GR86 Exhausts

Those of you interested in a little extra noise, without breaking the bank may be interested in an option I've gone with (for now).

Like many of you, I have found the idea of spending £1500 on a catback exhaust quite hard to justify. I considered going down the custom route, but eventually got offered a good deal on the first Remark Axle Back exhaust to the UK.

The exhaust is as basic as can be. Quite simply a backbox delete with some larger tips. Often, this kind of system can result in a lot of drone and rasp, but videos of US cars gave me some confidence.

I'm happy to report, after having the exhaust fitted for around 300 miles now, it's pretty good. A little droney off throttle around 2k and 4k rpm, but cold starts aren't dreadful, and sound on throttle is great. Loud, but not ASBO by any means.

Some videos to demonstrate:

These exhausts are available to order from Funky Power in the UK. I can't necessarily share the price I paid, but I would suspect this solution being sub £500 to the general public.

This actually sounds really good for the money. Do you have any drive by clips of it?

Nice one. An axle back is the route I've decided to go down, like yourself £1500 for a catback is excessive. Unlike the previous generation the design of the exhaust run past the subframe is much better and doesn't warrant being changed, the stock resonator is also pretty effective. I'm holding out for JDL resonated option of even get one custom made.

JDL resonated was the one I planned to get, but it was double the cost of this one. To be honest, I'm glad I didn't go with the resonated one. For my needs, I think it would be a little too quiet. The non-resonated version is loud by default, but manages to fall into quite quiet when cruising/idle, which are the times I want it quiet.

It gives enough volume that it makes driving the car (finding the bite point of the clutch for example) a lot easier. It sounds awesome when at higher RPMs, almost silent at motorway speeds, and the only real drone is when accelerating at low RPM, which isn't exactly the best way to drive an NA car anyway.

This is pretty much perfect and what I’m going to look to buy. Thanks for the videos!

I may be ordering one of these 👍🏻

Anyone who’s looking at ordering a Remark, please drop me a line either on here or Facebook. I’ll put you in touch with the guy for this exhaust. He’s been expecting more orders after supplying mine!

I take it there’s nothing to code in the Engine management system, and no error codes popping up?

What‘s your stance on Toyota being nobs regarding warranty, and police being a bit miffed with the noise levels?

It's not that loud compared to the US cars. GPF puts pay to that. I think it sounds great. Plus if it does drone like axle backs tend to then sound deadening on boot floor will sort that.

L Spec II is a tad quieter, I think specifically for the Japanese/EU markets.
Still waiting on mine. Ordered with Fensport two weeks ago - not in stock but supposedly ready to ship in "3-7 days" from point of ordering. Wonder if they just obtain it from Japan directly. I would chase them up and see if they ahve an update, but the price went up after I'd put my order in, I don't want them to insist I need to pay extra :p

Did you go with 32016-BT004 or 32016-BT001?

004 is a newer product for the GR86/22-BRZ and a bit louder than 001 which was for the GT86/BRZ I think.

Again hard to tell from YouTube but the 001 sounded close to stock to me.

I have contacted them in the regards to the same exhaust, was told that middle/end of March as ETA.

I'm not sure....on the receipt, the SKU is "32016-AT123"

But I ordered it from the below link where it's specifically listed as for the GR86 with the dimensions suitable for the FA24

Just following up on this, as I'm a bit concerned now.

32016-BT004 and 32016-BT001 are the SKUs for the Spec L 1 -
- 32016-BT001 for the GT86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/15327
- 32016-BT004 for the GR86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/29887

Then the following SKUs are for the Spec L 2
- 32016-AT123 for the GT86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/21613
- 32016-AF101 for the GR86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/29848

I ordered from the link above, where the item was definitely listed as the Spec L II for the GR86, but my PDF invoice has the SKU as 32016-AT123 for the GT86. Might have to follow up with them and make sure :/
