Friends,

Fingers crossed I'm putting a deposit down on a GRY this weekend :)

Could I ask what your experience was re: issues in the GRY's first few years of life? I'm trying to be conscious of what I should be on the look out for with the Yaris

This is a 2020 white model with just under 30k km (18k miles) on it. When I inspect it, apart from the normal tyres, brakes etc, are there any particular issues that are unique to the Yaris?

At the end of the day, the GRY is manufactured by the most reliable automaker in the world, and a lot of parts are shared with the very abundant standard Yaris model, so I don't expect I would face too many issues

Cheers all,
Bond

Congrats - I think you have good taste on cars! :)
Apart from the "regular checks" for used cars (e.g brakes, fluids, noises and signs of accidents/abuse) , first thing that comes to mind is: clutch. Not in my case (at least yet) but read sporadic cases of early failure of this component, namely the dual-mass.. Good luck (y)

In normal use not maybe an issue but if abusing it seems to be a fuse for driveline.

Stock brake pads are also bit soft for harder use so if any tendency for harder track driving can recommend switching to track oriented pads and braided brake hoses.

Clutch and gearbox, and why manufacturers prefer to sell auto boxes. Hopefully this kind of car attracts a better driver type, same time driving can be harder so a lower risk but higher consequence type of case.

Cheers brother, and I agree I appreciate my taste as well đŸ˜›

Thank you all for the input, I'll check for weird vibrations etc through the clutch pedal, but I suspect this early on it may be hard to catch, especially if the owner didn't drive it that hard

Hello friends,

Satisfied owner of a 2020 GRY :)

I have not yet had a chance to properly take it out for a spin, will try to do that tomorrow afternoon on some windy roads. My preliminary thoughts are that the Yaris isn't actually as fun on the roads as the MX5 (which is a genuine roadster) because the Yaris wants to move, whereas the MX5 is happy taking corners at a comfortable speed

I am planning to take the Yaris to the track where I think it'll be happier. I'm not at all a track driver, so I think I'll have a lot to learn, which is exciting. I'll probably take up track coaching so I can learn to drive it properly

MX-5 is imho the most fun modern car at moderate road speeds. But if you have possibility to hammer (very) twisty roads safely, the Yaris is probably on top of that list...

Thanks for your insights my brother. I will try just that soon and see how the Yaris likes corners at higher speeds compared to the MX5. Will report back!
