This video was recommended to me by the good old YouTube algorithm and I'm enjoying it so far.

5 times Malaysian Rally Champion driving the GR86 'with enthusiasm' on mountain roads with traffic!

Probably not one for the health and safety executive to watch, but he's certainly using the car to its fullest extent....

Having spent a week in Malaysia a few years ago I can confirm that’s fairly standard driving out there. The more hair raising sights were motor bikes travelling at 70+ up the hard shoulder, riders in a pair of shorts and flip flops and naff all else. The jeopardy increased by monkeys running about in the hard shoulder in question 😅

From what I could see there did seem to be a love of small modified Protons and Perodua’s.

Agree, needs more dogs wandering into the road, wide loads crawling, weaving mopeds and fewer drivers using their mirrors

Certain people drive like that in Bradford all of the time - it's normal.

This guy also did a video in the GR Yaris a couple of years ago - below for comparison purposes. :)

Pretty sure if that road was in the UK it would have average speed cameras on it, but that certainly looks like a lot of fun, in either GR car.

He does really well to avoid so many randomly driven vehicles, if you added in dogs and monkeys it would be like GTA!

Definitely felt like the locals were winging it when I was there and I did witness the aftermath of a fair few prangs which was no massive shock.

Irrespective of the driving the locals I met all came off as lovely and welcoming and it was an interesting place to visit. There was a huge amount of obvious development building and modernisation going on there too.

It was good to see his heel toe technique, but I can't copy it. I have realised that I can't raise my heel off the floor enough as my leg hits the steering wheel. There is just not enough room for long legs and size 12 DMs to do that kind of dance. Different shoes and a steering wheel reach adapter (can't bring myself to do it) are possible solutions that have been discussed here before.
The Cusco throttle pedal extension, and size 12s, mean I can just slide my foot slightly right and tip the edge of my shoe onto the throttle.

I haven't had much time to practice with the GR86 yet, but even with size 8 feet I could never heel and toe comfortably in my MX5. I bought some Puma Speedcats when I got the GR86 so am determined to get it sorted, possibly with the Cusco adapter to help. Empty car parks beware!
