GR86 DIY - Sparco Strap for closing the trunk

Hi, everyone! I wanted to share my latest DIY project with you. I bought the SPARCO tow strap to repurpose it for a different use Now it’s my strap for closing the trunk, so I won’t have to leave fingerprints on the outside of the trunk anymore—or, conversely, get my hands dirty if the trunk is dirty. It took about twenty minutes. I used one of the holes where a clip had been holding the trunk’s interior lining in place to thread a screw through, which I then used to secure the hook.

Just as a heads up, please be careful when using this! I did the exact same thing on mine after I bought it, and due to the strap length i found mine was getting trapped in the boot catch. I could tell because my strap was red…and it started chewing away the end of it! So I ended up shortening it to the edge of the sparco label.

Also, when my missus tried to close the boot using this strap (due of its position in the centre of the boot) she didn’t move her hand away quick enough and she near enough shut her hand in it! Left her with a nasty bruise So, I’ve been meaning to remove mine. There is another solution that is floating around on the forum that may be a bit more “user friendly”.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me; I completely understand what you mean. After reading your message, I decided to adjust the strap’s position, and now I’ve attached it to the hole in the upper right corner—not the one in the center, right behind the trunk latch. This way, it no longer gets caught in the latch, and it’s much easier to close the trunk without risking hitting my hand while doing so (I’ve tried it several times), and I’m much happier with it
