To date any customisation of the cars features has been limited to going to the dealer or acquiring TechStream. The former haven’t covered themselves in glory, the later seems a bit fraught with knock off software and for those who use a Mac the need to re-inhabit the world of Windows is not a place I want to go.

An alternative exists, Creader ELITE T by LAUNCH.
Available from Aliexpress from about £80 (order cancelled by seller) to £100 (despatched a second time) or from EBay now down to about £115 typically. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405261835281

The unit supports two way communication with the car and can be used to recode a similar range of features as TechStream.
Note: the reader is manufacturer platform specific, the one I bought was for Toyota & Lexus only. I did wonder if would support the GR86, but it does, it reads the car’s VIN and sets everything up.

If you download the link below from the original conversations the full scope of the changes are listed:
https://www.gr-zoo.com/attachments/86-customizable-parameters-body-control-system-pdf.20071/

The adaptions the Creader features broadly follow the pdf, however the pdf is for USDM cars, so some region specific additions and omissions exist.
Keeping it simple the following is possible.
Row 2 of the pdf: door touch sensor changed to unlock both doors.
Row 5: turns off the interlink that switches the headlights on when the screen washer is used
Row 11: Security Alarm Setup = a big NO, not a listed feature on the reader NOT POSSIBLE
Row16: Auto A/C setting, the auto switching between fresh air and recirculate disabled

Additionally from the reader:
Remote Control Key Link to the Power Winder Setting: Changed to ‘support’. A long push on unlock rolls both windows down. It doesn’t (or I haven’t found the setting) to auto wind them up though. I have an aftermarket module fitted to auto fold/unfold the mirrors on lock/unlock, the window auto down appears to play nicely with that.
ASC: fake sound switchable on, switchable off.
TPMS: seems to allow reprogramming (but don’t quote me), I haven’t found the codes for the pre-existing sensors.
For track day heroes
Telematics: eCall on/off setting.
Panic (hard) Braking: that triggers the hazard warning lights has an on/off setting.

Above is my summary, obviously you can change (bugger up) an awful lot more than I’ve done.
The Creader was bought with my own money, I’ve no links to the seller via Aliexpress or the manufacturer. For less than the cost of a hours time at the dealers I’ve intuitively changed the features I want, and have a two way reader should something fail on the car.
If you’re looking for the ideal present for the wife this Christmas your choice has just been made.

Not sure what this is. Is it referring to the headlight washers, rather than the lights themselves?

Aditionally from the reader:
Remote Control Key Link to the Power Winder Setting: Changed to ‘support’. A long push on unlock rolls both windows down. It doesn’t (or I haven’t found the setting) to auto wind them up though.
You should just be able to hold the lock button and the windows will roll up.

Head light washers, long pull on washer combi stalk operates headlamp washers and puts the headlamps on.
Window roll up function on lock. I’ll check both when I to the car again.

Oh. The behaviour on mine is that the headlamp washers activate with a long pull of the stalk, but only if the lights are already on. That interesting that you can change it.

I think this is a different thing: there's the headlight wash activated by the screenwasher as you've described, but there is also, and I've never tried this, 'wiper link' which turns the headlights on if you're using the wipers with the lights in auto mode but it's not dark.

If that's true, then that's actually bloody useful and something I'd turn on. I've always thought it would make sense that cars with automatic headlights should put them on if the wipers come on. The amount of people I see regularly ploughing through heavy rain with no lights on because "its dAyTiMe, I dON't nEeD liGhTs, I cAn SeE fiNe!!" is maddening.

Plugged Techstream into my car just not to investigate. "Wiper link Auto LightSetup" is in the Utility Customize module, but it was already set to "ON".

I couldn't actually double check to see if there was such a function, because at this time, it's now dim enough for the headlights to automatically switch on anyway (a setting I nudged down while I was there) - but I'm almost certain the lights have never come on just due to the wipers being active. I'll have to wait until tomorrow, hope it's brighter, and retest. Intrigued.

From what I've seen (mainly as a Subaru function) the wipers have to be on for 'a while', several wipes at least, before the lights activate...

I’ve revisited the headlamp function.
The switch appears to be, do you want the headlamp washers to work - yes or no.
If yes, then the headlamps need to be on the main/dip setting to allow it. It doesn’t wash the headlamps on DRL.
Re-set back on ON.
