After watching a ton of videos of the gr86 and brz, and the user manual, they all have a smooth differential housing. On the other hand, the cars that arrive in Spain (and I don't know if other countries) have finned casings. I have a doubt if the jack can be placed there to lift the entire axle and place jack stands.
Are your differential houses finned?
Has anyone tried to lift the car by placing the jack on a finned casing?

Our cases look the same. I've always just jacked by placing the jack pretty much under the drain bolt. Did that multiple times with the old car, which was the same, and never saw any evidence of it doing any harm.

Same here, always used that as a jack point regardless on the gt86, will also be doing on the GR86

The GT86 didn't have a finned diff though, I think that's what he is getting at, those fins are more inclined to snap off as they are cast. The manual says it's ok to jack on the diff regardless of the graphic, so I'd be happy to do it as long as there is a jacking pad, or piece of wood to spread the load across the fins, they are flat which means it should be fine.

Well I'll be. I was convinced it did.
I think the GR86 is gaslighting me, most components seem exactly the same as the old car so I end up thinking everything is :D

I’ve jacked up off the diff & front central jacking point, just used a block of wood to spread the load, no issues 👍
