GR Yaris Cracked windscreen

Anybody else had the windscreen crack?
A stone hit mine and caused a small chip not much bigger than the tip of a ballpoint pen then 30 seconds later it cracked, I was doing 30mph at the time.
The windscreen seems pretty fragile to go as easily as that.

I’m booked in on Friday with National windscreens to get it replaced, I’m just hoping they get the correct replacement.

Yes they did.
I’m hoping the replacement screen is a bit tougher than the original sugar glass screen!

The screens are thin because “race car weight saving” quite a few have been cracked and replaced. I think @DeanoC even managed to crack his on the NC500 without having a stone hit.

Your replacement will be the same as the one currently fitted.

Did you have to take to Toyota for calibration. What was the charge. And what is the calibration of?

auto glass replaced mine yesterday, don't know if was just lucky but my technician was superb, fitted and calibrated in just over hour plus vacuumed interior so pretty much drive-in drive-out, screen was genuine toyota, insurance covered with just £75 excess to pay

Just had autoglass do the windscreen replacement. - Toyota glass and all very tidy.

I checked with toyota prior to the appointment about the resin to use after an earlier discussion on the other site mentioned the structural rigidity from the glue used and the toyota replair manual required the use of a High modulus (High regidity) resin.
I got to see the resin used at the local shop but the packaging didn't have any specs on it. In the end I spoke to a nice chap at Dupont & it turns out that autoglass have an exclusive deal for the use of a single pack resin, so no extra harder needed, that goes off to spec in 30 mins from Dupont & most importantly is high modulus .
He also mentioned that most car manufacuters now use & specify a high modulus resin & its the after market thats in the process of catching up.

Scrap this, all booked in and will drive to the place. Have to say was quite simple and nice that insurance largely covered it.

Reviving this thread as a stone hit mine and it’s cracked. When I go to book on autoglass they say that the sensor recalibration needs to be done indoors due to wind, moisture etc affecting it. Presumably they have sites all over the place and you take the car there or they transport it? Or can they still do it on the driveway somehow?

just had my second screen fitted with autoglass, same location, same technician from 2024, perfect job with sensor calibration all done within an hour, as I'm running the vehicle a few mm lower i took two 5mm wooden shims under tyres that lift front back up to factory height for correct sensor alignment

Great, good to know (shame it’s your second replacement though!). Mine is all booked in tomorrow, have to say that it was a super simple process. Be glad when it’s sorted.
