I had a non-ghost immobiliser installed today, the guy who fitted it was great, a local independent and really knew his stuff, it was *not* straightforward and needed some working out on his part to get it working with some of the quirks of the "Toybaru" electronics.
He said something interesting though, in his experience a lot of the problems that people report with the ghost (apart from it now being a bit old) is normally due to autowatch apparently licensing it to literally anyone to install, so you have people like car cleaners being passed out to install it with minimal electronics training, which these national fitters use (and apparently quite few are the same company, trackerteam and ghostinstallations etc.) and who follow the same instructions so often all the of the modules are always in exactly the same place in every car (where the example is in the training manual) so bad guys literally know where to look.
So if you have hiccups with cars which aren't "everyday" or anything out of the ordinary happens they either bin off the install or that's when you get systems which are unreliable, unless you don't care and are literally getting one installed because your insurance says so ;)
Long story short, use a good local independent (who were the same price as well).
