GR Yaris Buyers regret

Thanks for all the lovely comments. I’m from Slovenia so the options really are limited. I’ll stick around with the order for a bit while I suppose, can’t lose much I guess waiting a bit longer haha
Hello neighbor! I'll PM you when I switch to summer tyres finally this week, maybe we can meet somewhere for you to have a go (but my car is a bit modded). I'm 15 mins away from the border.

The big question is what would you replace it with? Every single car has its flaws, you will just trade what they are. Even if you can't use it all the time, the option is always there. In my eyes it's a perfectly practical, not ridiculously expensive to run or buy so it's not like you consciously throwing money away.

If you are going from A to B, and have to contend with everything the roads throw at you, traffic pot holes, etc. Might as well do it in something special, your choices (from new) are running out.
Exactly this!

You guys really convinced me, I currently drive a Clio RS Trophy stage 2 so hoping it will be a good upgrade, especially as I’m getting tired of this automatic transmition 🤣

The only alternatives for me would be a (used) Renault Megane RS Trophy (or Trophy-R) or a Honda Civic Type R.
However, I am absolutely satisfied with my GR Yaris (prefer smaller cars to bigger ones).

Yeah same. I much prefer smaller cars now, which is why I got the Clio 4 years ago, almost at the same time as a mk4 Megane Trophy. I had a mk3 Trophy-R and a mk4 Trophy, but I wasn’t that impressed with the new generation. I really miss my Trophy R, I’ll post a picture of my ex beauty, still miss it everyday 🥰 I was always a fan of Renault Sports and would love it if they made a proper mad Clio Trophy with a manual. Like they teased with RS16 concept

@Nishan Sorry dude that I asked if you were near Warwickshire. I didn't have my reading glasses on and I swear I thought the flag in your profile was a Union Jack.

I'm thinking hovercraft.

A friend of mine was lucky enough to buy a Clio 182 Trophy. It was a few years ago and it was in a bad condition, now it is great again :) Anyway, a very cool car.

As a track tool, he also has a Clio 3 RS in which he has installed a Megane 3 RS engine, extremely nice car. (Interior completely thrown out, cage, suspension, etc.).

His girlfriend bought a Megane 4 RS Trophy (Manuel) and he initially thought the 3 RS Trophy was better by far, until he fitted semi-slicks to it and now thinks they are both very similar after all.

There's been a lot of talk about the Honda Civic Type R (FK8) and people often forget that the Megane RS Trophy is still the better car.
(Maybe because people don't necessarily think of French cars when they think of racing cars? ^^)

Nice motor! I had me an RS Megane 250 for years. Still miss it, was a great car!

It's also a real shame they never made the RS16. That one had me super interested too.

Sadly though, and as I expect you're aware, RenaultSport is no more :( From what I understand, and slightly strangely the last RS was sold only in Japan?!

-edit-

That must have been pre-release news I heard, apparently mainland Europe also got it.

Yes, but in the end, the last Megane RS Trophy ended up being sold only as an automatic version, at least that was the case here in Luxemburg...
(My friend's girlfriend was still lucky to get the manual version.)

Yeah new Trophys are only sold as automatics unfortunately

I guess it depends on your primary use for the car. Yesterday wife and I were hunting bits for the house having had waterproofing fail in the main bathroom and on our way to get bits we saw a Westfield clubman (Caterham clone), A Focus RS and a couple of other cars I had considered before grabbing the GRY. We talked about the others compared to the GR and decided that the GR was the best of that bunch for what we/I do. Having said that it isn't a car I drive on a trip for hundreds and hundreds of km. It is my daily (I don't work) and usual track car. It suits that purpose well. Bit louder now than stock and a bit stiffer but still fun to drive, especially if I can find the odd bit of gravel or twisty stuff. Though a hint on the gravel bit, make sure you tell your copilot that you are about to do a Scandanvian flick into the farm driveway first. Stops a lot of the unecessary noise from the passenger seat. Not all but a lot.

Hahaha good advice 🤣 i can’t take turns faster than 100kmh because the seat keeps screaming something and I can’t ignore it for too long otherwise a slap is incoming. It has a pretty good right hand that thing 🤣

Ouch, not good. My wife usually put up with my spirited driving quite well... But with GRY things aren't quite the same.
It's the only time I heard her saying she HATES something (was aimed at GRY) in 25 years we're together.
On other hand, if you drive "extremely smooth" I've done some sick speeds on A-road corners without her even noticing.
So, B-road blast is a no-no, high speed A-road cruise is ok.

Haha 😂. Mine is 'perhaps you can slow down a bit' or 'is that necessary' with a pretty passive aggresive tone, or sometimes uncensored 'one more turn like that and I'm gonna slap you' , on the other hand she's pretty used to have a wheelman as she can also say 'why are you driving so slowly, you are irritating me' when driving the legal limit and we're being passed. Pretty narrow range of acceptable progress 🤣

At the last SCITP in May I played that game of look at the cars I could get instead of my lovely red GRY. I looked at new Porsches and even the Lotus Emira. When finished walking around checking out many cars I walked back to mine and smiled when I got back to it as I realised it ticked many more boxes for me and is so unique I feel so lucky to have got one. At the time £31k was the most I have ever spent on a car but now I see mundane EV shopping cars at that price and think I got a bargain for a very special one-off car which I hope to keep till I drop. I would regret selling it within hours of it going and ending up with one of those nice other cars - but not a remarkable GRY.
