I put a deposit down on a GR Yaris with a circuit pack today and will pick it up on Friday next week. I found a used GR Yaris with 4,500 miles on it being sold at a reasonable price at a local Toyota dealership.

I was driving a Renault Megane RS 280 up until a month ago when it was written off after having an unfortunate collision with a dead deer at 70 mph. The Yaris feels different to the front wheel drive Megane and has less power (but does not feel like it) so I am looking forward to the unique grip of the Yaris when I finally get to drive it.

I have seen quite a few GR Yaris' zooming around track days I have been on when I have been in my Clio 200 track car. I will take the GR Yaris out on track later this year.

Was the deer dead before you hit it, after or both? 🤔

Might be a bad time to mention this seeing as you’ve bought the car, but apparently the lower grille isn’t very strong on the GR and will likely crack if you hit another deer - dead or alive. 🤪

I’ve never driven the mk4 RS Megane, but had mk2 225 and mk3 250 Cups in years gone by as well as more RS clios than I can remember. I think you’ll find the Yaris very much to your liking!

The deer was already dead, just laying with it's back towards the car so I could launch the car over it in the style of the Dukes of Hazard.

I will do my best to avoid hitting any more deer.

I have never had a rear wheel or four wheel drive car so I am looking forward to it.
 
I picked up my GR Yaris yesterday. The journey to the dealer was awful with traffic everywhere. I arrived in the dark and had another good look around the car to make sure two of the kerbed wheels had been properly repaired. After sorting out the tax and transfer of ownership I finally got to drive "my" car.

The journey home was fairy bad with more traffic so I did not really get much of a chance to test the car's abilities.

The dealer gave me the bamboo key box and a Toyota Issho which I guess came with all new GR's so it was a nice touch as the second owner to have these items.

Today I have been doing some on call work and went out in the Yaris for a few short journeys and enjoyed the ride. The power delivery is good, the brakes are good when you lean on them and the suspension feels firm but compliant. Today was wet and greasy so the 4 wheel drive definitely gave me more grip at roundabouts when I was doing some spirited driving.

I took some clean rubbish to the tip today and realised that the boot is actually very, very small.

I was told by the dealer that the car had a set of carpet mats but there are only 3 in the car, the front passenger side was missing. I have now ordered some genuine Toyota carpet mats with the GR logo on them.

The one USB port and lack of a sensible place for a mobile phone in the car is really confusing me. I think I will buy a non-slip mat for the upper centre console under the central vents and a shorter USB cable to connect my phone. I have a dual USB outlet to plug in to the 12v outlet for any passengers who need to charge their phones.

I am going to see the chap who deals with the work on my Clio 200 in 10 days time to have a ZPO shifter installed on the Clio. He says that he set up the geo on a few GR Yaris' so I will work out a plan with him to get some more negative camber on the Yaris using camber bolts.

I have booked the car on to a track day at Brands Hatch on 17th December 2022. I have usually avoided track days in winter as I have always been worried about grip and wet weather. That should not be a problem with the Yaris.

So far so good.

I registered my car on the MyT app on Friday after picking up the car.

Yesterday after taking delivery of a cheap tracker from Rewire Security I noticed that my MyT app had been activated and that the Yaris had it's own built in tracker. I checked the app and it showed a few of my journeys and had given a critique of my driving - most journeys had bad breaking or bad acceleration comments!

I have a Circuit Pack car and have attempted to register the multimedia system. Am I right in thinking that as I don't have the navigation system from the Convenience Pack that I cannot register the multimedia system?

I have 3d printed a headrest GoPro camera mount ready for the first track day.
 
Think you're right about registering the multimedia system, and that it needs to be the convenience pack.

Ex-demo? The dealers around here are selling on their demo models. I hope for your sake it's not, many of those will have been seriously thrashed.
 
If it was an ex-demo car then I am not too bothered. My car is not going to be a garage queen and I will use it as my daily driver. It is sat outside my office covered in filth at the moment as the roads are wet and mucky. It may have been given some lively test drives, with short journeys, high revs, and little sympathy for the engine. But this is a car that was designed to be driven hard (albeit after it has been properly warmed up and cooled down).

I am just glad that I have been able to buy a GR Yaris.

I finally got some time in day light to give the Yaris it's first wash (or at least the first wash from me). I enjoy washing my cars. I got out the pressure washer and gave it a pre-wash to loosen any grime, a snow foam to loosen up some more grime, then used the pressure washer to get the snow foam off and get as much dirt off before I then used the two bucket method to clean the car. I used some Iron Out and tar remover to get rid of any contamination in the paint work. I did get out the clay bar and did the bonnet but virtually no dirt was being picked up. I then gave it a few coats of wax to protected it.

The paintwork was looking good the next day with some beautiful beading.

I had purchased a cheap tracker before I realised that the Yaris already has a tracker in it. I installed that other tracker today as I quite like the interface on the other tracker in both it's app and website that makes it far easier to track mileage compared to the MyT app.
 
I have today purchased some Powerflex camber bolts for the front and back. The car is booked in with AW Motorworks on 3rd December 2022 to set up the geometry. I am hoping to get something like -2.5 degrees of negative caber at the front and -2.0 degrees of negative camber at the rear.


I just need to find some time to get the bolts in before I go and see Alex.
 
I installed the camber bolts in the week.

I have used PowerFlex products in the past and people were recommending them for the Yaris so I thought they should be good enough for a bit of extra negative camber.

I have got a very cheap camber measuring tool that cannot be at all accurate as it thinks I have over 5 degrees of negative camber at the moment.

I will have the alignment and geo sorted on Saturday.
 
I went to see Alex at AW Motorworks today and he set up the geo on the Yaris. When the camber bolts had been installed the camber was all over the place with about 2.5 of negative caber at the back and between 2 and 3 degrees of negative camber on the front.

After a chat we decided to go for 2.5 degrees of negative camber at the front, 2.25 degrees of negative camber at the back, and a small amount of toe.

I had a look of the underside of the car when it was up on the ramp and it looks like the underside has been sealed after it has left the factory - if it has that is a nice touch.
 
Sounds like you’re enjoying the car .

How does it drive now in comparison after the camber changes ?
 
It feels more planted and better when accelerating out of corners.

The recent wet and cold weather has made it a bit more difficult to push the car and feel the difference.
