GR86 Bumper grill replacement

After my unfortunate incident with a pheasant last week, I asked my Toyota dealership for a quote to replace said Grill. Price of replacement grill is £140.

They quoted £334, which I assume covers 2 hours of labour? Fair price?

😲 200 quid to take off the front bumper and replace a bit of plastic fencing?? 🫣
 
Removing the front bumper is actually not too bad, even if it sounds daunting. It's a little tricky to get it back on without a second pair of hands, but it's definitely possible. I think I'd do it myself to save 200 quid.

Under each headlight you'll see a little rectangle shaped panel which hides the headlight washers, it pops out when they activate. The panel attaches to the nozzle so you need to gentle pull it out and unclip it before removing the bumper.

You aren't being fleeced, that sounds like typical main dealer labour rates. If you go independent you are looking at £60-75ph.

I've had the car for 12 months now and this is news to me! No idea they were fitted. 👍 Thanks for pointing this out. When/how are they activated?

When the headlights are on, if you pull back the stalk to wash the windscreen for more than a second or so, it will do the headlights too.

Looks good. If the original grill isn't too badly damaged, it could be fitted straight on top - and no £200 for removing the bumper. 😀
 
I swapped mine with the vent trims to ones painted in D4S,
Do I want to do it again? nope, it's not fun but you can get it over with on a Sat or Sunday.
If i didn't care about the car so much i would rather pay someone to do it, i just know they aren't gonna place the bumper down softly or in a safe place.

Getting it off is straight forward but you definitely want a second pair of hands to get it back on.
You will need a pop clip removing tool ideally as there are a lot, and a small socket set.
Some elevation will help and somewhere inside, the dining table for example, covered in towels to help you during the next step.
The hardest thing I found was popping the grill out of the bumper. Your fingers wont thankyou but it's nothing complicated or to be scared off in any way.

Not got a response back from the independent place and don't trust myself to do a good job of doing it myself. Off to Toyota it is.
