I saw a thread on the other forum but it seemed inconclusive.

Has anyone done anything to remove the large amount of polystyrene crap from the boot to increase space and tidy up the area?

Main thing would be some sort of protection around the battery so stuff can't knock into it, I'm also wondering if I can make a small frame to store things under the oem boot liner.

I just use the various voids for storing stuff like cloths and emergency hi-viz vest (yes, M. Gendarme, I can access from inside the car, honest)

Yeah, I had plans on increasing boot space but I end up using the underfloor space to store various smaller stuff that would otherwise fly around... Probably need to tidy up there as not all stuff is needed.
Hi-viz I keep in door pocket, it's my own safety after all...

I wonder if anyone has put an Odyssey or similar gel battery under the bonnet and freed up the boot area completely?

I guess these are no good with the stop/start system so that would need deactivating.

Not a problem if you only drive it in Sport or Track modes 😉

So I actually ended up getting rid of the polystyrene and using a couple of old amazon cardboard boxes to store stuff like hi viz, tyre pressure gauge, etc. Then put the carpet back on top.

It's still not optimal but at least means the boot is always empty.
