GR86 Back from the detailer!

Thanks to a delayed delivery from Toyota (what, really? ), I missed my originally-planned detailer 'slot', so had to wait five weeks for another convenient appointment to have it ceramic coated.

I'd put 1,000 miles on it by then (including two unavoidable 250-mile motorway trips with work) so it had already picked up a few minute paint chips, but I'm absolutely delighted with the results.

Hope you like the pics. I went for the full new car package, which is full paint correction, treatments for interior and glass, wheels off, and a five-year ceramic treatment with Garage Therapy products (obviously with an annual refresh). Total cost £800.

I'd love to have gone for PPF too (which I know will help minimise - but not eradicate - future chips), but paying a further £2.5-3k-ish even for a partial wrap just wasn't an option.

My man said the paint thickness was actually pretty good compared to a lot of new cars these days, averaging 120-130 uM on most of the body, and 220 uM on the bonnet.

If you ever need any detailing work in or around West Yorkshire, I can highly recommend Matt at Revive Autocare in Batley.

Looks good. My feeling with PPF is you just know you'll spend <£3k on it and still end up getting a stone hitting the parts of the car that isn't . This would annoy me more than just getting them in general.

Something similar happened to me, I spent £2k on front-end and roof. Only for some inconsiderate idiot to swing their door in a car park and it has now gone through to metal on my passenger door.

If anything it has justified my decision to get PPF even more as I have realised how badly I would have been bothered by stone chips on the front of the car. So to each their own, I guess.

Looks amazing! I had PPF done on the front and sills as it's my daily driver.
How are you finding the rear parking sensors? Mine's due to go back in for spoiler fitting and parking sensors at some point.

The sensors are an utter Godsend - I reverse in at home, and have a tight, unlit parking space with a low wall at the back. The reverse camera is actually surprisingly good, but the sensors really do let me be way more precise, especially if it's raining and/or dark... which, considering we both live in Yorkshire, you'll know is around 22 hours a day on average.

Where did you have your PPF done, out of interest, and what did it cost? Which panels did you have covered?

I had my detailing done at Advance Detail Leeds, two minutes from Leeds Toyota.
PPF front bumper, sills & door edges, them ceramic coat all over- £1629 including VAT.
I agree on the Rear sensors too & LED reversing bulbs.

That's a really good price! Presumably you mean bonnet too?

I would think about the roof, the roof take a battering, especially the part at the front of the windshield.

No I didn't go for the Bonnet, front wings & mirrors. That would have been another £648 + the dreaded VAT.
I only PPFd the really vulnerable areas. I couldn't justify spending any more on a 30k car. Before you know it you may as well spend 5k & have the whole car done.

Did the dealer fit the parking sensors and are they colour coded? This is something I would consider.

The original car spec from Toyota said the car came with parking sensors, so when the very first cars arrived without them people complained so they offered them as a dealer fit free of charge to anyone who wanted them. I think they arrive black & need painting.
I had mine fitted before I collected the car.
Not sure about the second batch of cars?

Think someone said here, new batch definitely does not come with parking sensors and you would now need to pay to get them fitted on the manual.

Getting my rear sensors fitted next week foc, though to be honest the more I drive mine, the more I think the rear camera is sufficient on it’s own.
But if they’re free, I may as well - but I don’t think I’d be worrying about getting them fitted if I was a 2nd batch order

T online had agreed to have mine fitted, unfortunately the dealership didn’t even manage to order them in the three weeks they had it…
Having had the car for a week, I don’t think I’m actually going to get them fitted, the camera seems to be enough.
NOW if they could be fitted in the front, that would be different

The demonstrator I drove was a manual and it definitely had blind spot monitoring.

Yes the manual has blind spot monitoring.
It also has monitoring when in reverse for cars (I am assuming pedestrians as well) that it identifies as moving.
