Just wondering if anyone elses car is suffering from this, it's probably the worst rattle I've ever had the displeasure of listening to in a car. It's the passenger side rear seat area sort of under the window. I completely stripped the plastics in the boot trying to find it ran out of time but isolated the sound to where I describe. Doesn't look quite so easy to remove that large section of plastic around that area :( I'm half contemplating taking it to Toyota and saying fix this but would be be more careful than me, probably not..

To remove the plastic trim you have to take the seat out (one bolt, disconnect a plug, and push down on the seat to release a catch), and then it's 4 plastic clips, and you need to remove the trim at the bottom of the door. It doesn't take too long to do, it's just awkward to contort yourself inside the car.

This is the rear of the trim, and the bit that sits by the window is at the top. I've added the thick black matting, but there is a bit of foam that sits by the window. You can see where the trim clips are, and it might be these rattling as they are loose and do have some movement. I've put some fabric tape around the mounts for the white clips to stop them rattling, so it might be worth doing the same.

Wow thank you Cubone, are you refering to removing the rear seat, I hope so because my standard seats have been replaced.

Every bump or uneven surface is causing something behind there to clatter and it getting on my nerves lol

Yep, just removing the rear seats to get to this state

I have the same rattle! For me it seems to be from the passenger side rear, near the wheel well and sounds like loose bits hitting sheet metal.

I haven't touched it since I got the car but do let us know if the rattle will go away!

Well tonight I removed the rear plastic interior trim from the passenger side, unfortunately there was nothing lose behind there, cables secured.

With the trim removed I took the car around the block and the rattle was still there, unfortunately I was on my own so could not get a location of exactly where this f***ing noise is coming from. I'm kinda wondering if it may be related to the suspension somehow as there just appears to be nothing loose.

Warranty claim I'm thinking..

Does it sound like it's coming from closer to the B pillar or the C pillar? I can vaguely remember somebody on one of the US forums having a rattle that was coming from one of the seatbelt mechanisms. If it was closer to the C pillar, was the rear seat up or down?

Sorry to open up this conversation again but I too have this rattle. Definitely rear passenger side. Sounds like a metallic noise mostly over broken or rough surfaces.
Rear interial stripped out to try and find the source. Still looking. ๐Ÿ™

@AEG86 did you solve your issue?

@La3195 this sounds very familiar! I've been meaning to do an update on this for a while...Anyway I did find the culprit after completely removing the rear interior, the wheel arch liner and under tray by the fuel tank... In the end there was nothing obvious. I started just using moderate force on every component in that area and I found the culprit!

Where the rear brake lines are held in place to the bodywork there is a washer (?) to hold them snug. The washer has a rubber coating to take up any slack and this has perished. I made a packer out of a milk carton (flexible plastic) that sat next to the washer and acted in the same way. The rattle is gone! I spent hours trying to find this f***ing noise with several rides of me laying in the boot with someone else driving trying to see where the noise originated.

This fix requires the removal of precisely nothing, I just had the car jacked up.

I hope this is able to help, let me know!

This was exactly the issue I was having. Except that it was caused by my after market brake lines which have a slightly smaller than OE fitment. Currently fixed with a zip tie until perma solution implemented.
This thread saved me from selling up. Thanks. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Im really glad this helped
