Yeah, that’s what boils my piss tbh. There’s no direct comparison to the GR86 in the same price bracket. The price is what it is due to high residuals, rarity in the UK and cars being held onto by owners in the most part. Only 22x GR86 on Autotrader last I looked, compared to 637x BMW M4s or 540x M3s. Make of that what you will.
Pretty sure YouTube’s Kevin Vo has done every modification possible with his GR86, so I think the internet is safe for now … That said, it’s always good to see more GR86 content from this side of the pond, so keep it up.
An auto trader search for new cars with a budget of £30-35k , rwd & manual the only option is the MX5, most of which are closer to £35k. If you remove rwd & manual your money opens up options which include such exciting models as a Dacia Bigster and Citroen C5 aircross.
As you say the suggestion £30k is expensive for a vehicle in 2025 or even 2023 when most of us placed our order is nonsensical. Yes “you could have M or M lite this, or Audi S this or that” but that comes from an assumption that you’re happy to buy a potentially scabby ~5 year old performance car which may have had its head kicked in since it rolled off the forecourt. There’s also the assumption you place 0-60 and top speed and the presence of a wireless vape charging slot at the top of your buying priorities.
To be fair it’s been going on since a newly registered Renaultsport hothatch would be compared to a miley rusty Impreza so around the time these boys would have had one of these as a daily.
