GR86 Anyone managed to get any insurance quotes for the GR86?

I'd been with Swiftcover for years prior to collecting my GR86 in December. Unfortunately, they would not cover the GR86 at all at the time so I had to switch providers.

I've always been happy with Swiftcover - good price, easy to make changes on the website, polite and efficient when you ring them, no cost for business use, healthy multi car discount etc. I've had to claim for a couple of destroyed windscreens over the years and it was quick and easy.

Happily, as of very recently Swiftcover now recognise and will cover GR86s, so I will be heading back there.

49 and a quarter years old, rural location, sensible job, business use, no points or claims for many years, full NCB, multi car discount, low miles: £268. Nice.

Summary: it looks like more car insurance companies now 'recognise' and will insure GR86s and the price is coming down. Swiftcover didn't insure the GR86 in December but now do, and might be worth trying.

Just been through a renewal, was a chore. Toyota gave the best quote at around £400 or so, but then said because the wheels had been changed to 16s, they could not insure it. They refused to quote even if the car was put back to stock, once modified, that's it 🤷‍♂️

Stayed with my current insurer LV in the end as they don't call it a mod if the wheels/tyres are narrower, only if you add wider tyres. I guess that would account for a winter set up, as snow tyres are often narrower. Was over twice the price of Toyota, though 😭

Could someone remind me which insurers are ”friendly” for mods, I’ll be fitting the Remark axel back, and since Compare the Market has 20 odd insurers in the range £280-£360 I’d rather pick the one thats best for the mod.

TY

Try Chris Knott, they were fine when I declared mods with my GT86 (manifold/remap). I'm with them again now, haven't added any mods yet, but am expecting a catback exhaust next month, so hoping they should be fine with that too.

I’m with Admiral and they were pretty good with modifications including PPF. Even adding an exhaust is £10.

One thing that annoyed the hell out of me is that I realised the other day that I’m not insured third-party on other vehicles. I’m in thirties and this is the first time that my insurance hasn’t included this.

I can't remember if I've posted this list before, but here are the companies to try if you want to modify your car. Most of which aren't on price comparison sites.

take the best price insurer, phone them, mention the quote and ask about your specific mods. I can't remember which but I previously got Admiral or Churchill to insure me with modified exhaust and aftermarket wheels.
