GR86 Anyone managed to get any insurance quotes for the GR86?

I have added the 86 as a 3rd car, with 17 & 19 yrs NCD on 2 other cars (1 cheap, 1 decent), but 1 claim 3 yrs ago, on 2 different policies. I added the 86 as a new 'multi' car to 1 of the 2 policies, with Admiral. I think my price was £350 ish, with which I was happy. If I hadn't been happy, I'd have rung and spoken to them and asked about swapping the new car for the cheap car NCD and therefore adding the cheap car as the extra car. I did this with my last mid-life crisis car 5 years ago (Giulia Veloce)

A question for those with more than one car AND more than policy. If you have multiple policies with different NCB's which do you declare when getting a quote for a third policy?
The one that gives you best advantage. The better the NCD the cheaper the insurance.

So say I had a shopper, a ex saloon and a sports car. The policy with the best NCD would be used on the car highest on the group ratings, the next one on the 2nd highest group, and the shopper 0 NCD

After spending around 2 hours trying to sort this it looks like I will be going with Admiral. (still not firmed up due to no reg yet)

MINI is with AXA who do multicar, great I thought I will give them a ring and see if they can add the 86, after spending about half an hour on hold got through to someone that took ten minutes to understand what I wanted and eventually said we don't cover those :ROFLMAO: FML
Chris Knot wanted a 4 figure sum:oops: even after asking had I owned/driven high performance cars before ( a couple of M3's obviously don't count:mad:)
Admiral have come in at less than £400 plus less than £200 for the Mini when it's due for renewal I think I paid over £250 on the mini in September.

So that's one job ticked off the list nearly at least.

Im with Admiral multicar and have been for a few years they actually seem to be ok with sports cars and when I hit a deer in a car it was all sorted at garage of my choice and efficiently. No complaints about them so far.

I've just had a quote from my existing insurer, they stipulated it must have a cat1 alarm/immobilizer, does the factory fitted alarm meet the cat1 requirements?

A Thatcham Category 1 device includes both an immobiliser and an alarm, whereas Category 2-rated devices relate to only immobilisers.

According to the spec sheet it has both alarm/immobiliser but see if you can set off the alarm to make sure :)

Cheers, I know from experience the GT86 alarm works 😃

Well, I'm glad I tried another comparison site, as I've got my policy down to just over £350 with Churchill, so happy with that.

GR86 is group 46
GT86 is group 33/34 depending on age

I'd be happy with that too. Just tried Churchill out of interest and it was nearly £700 using my max no claims and over £800 starting from 0 NCB.

Tried Aviva? NFU Mutual (you have to ring them)?
I have just gone with Aviva on the MX5 but that only has 5 years NCB on its policy, got a quote for less than £400 on a multicar quote with Admiral so looks like I will be going with them. Hopefully after a year the insurance rating will come down to something sensible, providing we all don't go binning our cars into hedges!

Which site, if you don't mind sharing?

Some more data as my insurance is running out and I need to renew next month. Churchill and DirectLine would not quote, LV= (currently with) £1019, Admiral £684, Toyota £502.

This was with a £700 voluntary excess, GR86 auto. For someone who started driving in the 80s and has never made a claim, these are quite expensive.

Given the ridiculous group rating the premiums will always be high.

I think its more to do with the very limited model volumes in the UK, the cars performance is modest in motoring terms.
its a tad bizarre that I can insure a M2 comp for less than a GR86.

My saving grace is no accidents, no convictions, 17 years since a claim and retired at 63.

Are you blemish free, insurance wise?

That does seem a lot.
I got £387 as part of an Admiral Multicar renewal, 42, 22yrs NCD, social/dom/commuting etc. 1 claim and clean licence.

Yeah but age goes against people at a certain point to.... 30-50 is the sweet spot, post this insurance starts to climb. Plus, its also to do with your area. Vehicle thefts, volume of claims... there are so many variables that inflate prices.

Further, they all use similar risk profile calculating. There are very few underwriters and most of them want low risk, understandably.

I'm 30s and mine is £427 a year from Admiral Multicar with 2 other vehicles, 3 total. That's with 10 years ncb, and one claim. Excess is £250 voluntary and £200 compulsory.

Yeah, no claims or accidents, but it might be the estate I live on in Maidenhead. Perhaps there have been an unusually high number of claims in the area.

I must save up for a posh house 😁

Moved to Weymouth 18 months back, after 40 years in North London.

House insurance has gone from £650 down to £300 per year. Car insurance has dropped 35%.

So move 🤣💯👍
