GR86 Anyone managed to get any insurance quotes for the GR86?

Hello all - I've been hiding until now as my situation is a little peculiar. I'll be taking delivery of a black Gr86 in Scotland. I'm 25 and yet to sit my practical test. I intend to daily drive the 86 as my first car. Predictably my quotes have been ridiculous. Looking at around 4.5k with a named driver on the policy (quote me happy) and 5k from Aviva.

RWD limited run sports car as your first motor? You’re braver than most!

Welcome to the forum. (y)

Worth trying AiB, but I think it's going to be pricey.

£470 from Chris Knott on a mod friendly policy (~10% uplift for wheels and suspension). 9+ years NCB (protected), clean license and 1 non-fault claim declared. Not quite as cheap as I'd like but not terrible either.

I haven’t looked at insurance, just used the 3 days drive home which has expired now though. It’s on the drive still with the wrap on, I had better sort it today.

This is impressive.

For reference, my first car 30+ years ago was a 1978 Fiat 128 with a 1.3 litre engine that cost me three hundred quid.

Good luck with the insurance hunting - I'd be interested to hear what you finally get it down to!

Final figure with spoiler added was £60 more to the end of the policy so probably another 6mths. I'll haggle down as usual come renewal and query how they define the spoiler as it's an OEM extra. Was just a dropdown box on the site.

My current insurer wouldn't cover it so I had to cancel that policy and start a new one. Had some trouble with MoneySupermarket which didn't have the registration number recognised but Go Compare did though.

Mine is higher than I expected but I'm still waiting for a previous insurer to assign fault for an accident to the other driver (a neighbour who hit my parked car and is denying it).

Just quoted an addition of a rear spoiler and "exterior decorative changes" (which I think would cover the aero stabiliser cover and mud flaps) with Admiral on my current no-modifications policy and they would only charge me £9.50 admin charge for these to be added.

Pleased to say after passing my test this morning (2 minors) I've been able to find some much more reasonable quotes after a bit of searching and refinement on my search. I was looking at around £1200 annual with 2 named drivers (one parent w 45+ years driving experience) ended up opting for a multi car insurance policy which knocked it down to just under £600 quid for cover until July with Hastings.

Picking the car up tomorrow - wish me luck (:

Congratulations on passing your test - all the best for the car collection!

Congrats!

They say the GR86 is a car that trains it's driver, so by that measure you'll be on a podium somewhere in no-time!

I sorted my insurance with LV today £19 to add to my other car until renewal in 3 weeks then looking at £700 for the two cars so u would that’s not too bad told them about the spoiler and as it’s a Toyota accessory fitted at the dealer there is no charge. I will shop around when 3 weeks is up although it’s ok for around 12k miles a year and business use

Ph that’s good to know, they were the cheapest when I was trying to do a multi car with another vehicle that I renewed end of Nov but as I didn’t have an exact collection date they couldn’t add it then. If I do a quote for the GR as a single policy with them they are one of the more expensive ones.

Going to give them a call tomorrow and hopefully it’s around the same as before.

Has anyone had a decent insurance quote from Adrian Flux??

Sheila’s wheels turned out to be cheapest for me.

Lv started off good start of December £460, called to add to multi car yesterday they wanted £890. Erm don’t think so!
