Is the 6 month inspection just advisory and not affect the warranty if not done?
 
It's all grey and you may get a few contradictory answers here. It is probably best to check with the dealer.

If it's not too much bother get it done as they'll do any recall work at the same time.
 
I called my local dealer and they told me it was mandatory. To be honest, I couldn't be bothered pushing them on it. I figured I had time, it was only £50 and it would give me a chance to visit the dealer and suss them out. It does sound like a bit of a GR tax. One day if I sell it might be something a pedantic buyer might want. They noticed a recall was due for the radar sensor while I was there so at least that got done as well.
 
When i had mine done last Summer they loaned me a little shit bucket. It was so bad i declined the loan car at the 12month service. I mean the inside of the doors were the same colour as the outside !
You have remined me that the 6 months is nearly due again :(
 
Get it done. Only took 15mins. It was the recall that took up an hour!! o_O :rolleyes: (y)
 
Worth noting that if you took a service plan out when you bought the car you may have the cost of the health checks already bundled in, so it is definitely worth getting it done to get your money's worth!

I do with my service plan from RRG.
 
I got it in writing from the dealer that the 6 month safety check is recommended and not mandatory, also that not having it done does not affect the warranty (the warranty is based on an annual service and the safety check can be done within that at no cost).
I couldn't be bothered driving the miles and spending the time to basically have my tyres kicked and the pristine bodywork scrubbed in a garage car washer....so I will get it done with the service

Thanks for the clarification. For various reasons my cars done 31miles after 6 months (soon to change) so I thought it unnecessary but didn't want to compromise the warranty.

    The 6 month safety check only applies when combined with 12 months service to qualify for Relax.
    If the 6 month safety check is not done, it depends very much on the component failure and by not doing the safety service did this influence the failure.
    The safety check is more focused on safety like brakes for example, which will be more impacted especially if used on track days verse normal general road use.

    I am not sure exactly what this means. To me, it sounds like if any of the components that they look at in the safety check later fail then they can say it isn't covered as they should have been allowed to check it and weren't allowed.
    It seems that this list of components will be fairly small mainly brakes, steering, chasis and suspension. Snag is that with main dealers anything is expensive to repair. I only use on the road so probably could miss the safety check but dealers as with insurance companies look for any reason to get out of it.
    At £50 it is arguable that it is £50 for a little extra insurance. £75 possibly even so.
    New designs always have faults and can take a while for them to become apparent so I suppose I will just have to grin and bear it and drink as much free coffee as I can down when I take it in.




 
If you try to book a service plan on the uk website you can actually opt out of the safety check. The GRY doesn't have pad wear sensors so you have to pay £50 (soon £75) for someone to check them for you. If you can see how much meat you have left on the pads yourself why pay someone else?

Worth having, mine has had stuff fixed, replaced, tightened up every time it has been checked over. Nice excuse for a drive out.
