This is my attempt to provide a guide to people who have changed/upgraded from their stock wing to one that doesn’t reuse the stock high level brake light (HLBL/3rd brake light).

This is mainly for Type 20/MK1 GR Yaris owners. As you already know, the standard HLBL is mounted in the wing. I installed an Aero Performance Package (Type 26) wing on a Type 20/MK1 where there isn’t provision to swap over the HLBL

The only solution for me to overcome this obstacle, is one that still uses OEM Toyota parts that are from the ‘non’-GR Yaris (MXPA11) model. On this model, the HLBL is internally mounted within a housing or ‘pod’ if you will -

The parts you need in the image are the ones at the bottom for privacy glass. Part numbers -

• 81570-K0050 (lamp/LED 81570)

• 81977-K0030 (housing/pod 81977)

• 90980-11917 (OEM connector unless you are de-pinning & reusing the one from your old wing)

• 90159-60382 (x2 required) Tapping screws, you can obviously use other screws/nuts & bolts etc. *OPTIONAL*

• 81952-K0020 (x2 required) screw covers for the pod. *OPTIONAL*

• 81952-52030 (Original GR cover that you already have but want a spare one to butcher) *OPTIONAL* In the image below-

The trickiest part of this conversion is swapping the connector on the new lamp/LED to allow you to connect it to the existing loom connector. The one on the new LED will NOT fit!

LEFT connector is the one that’s required to fit the loom & RIGHT connector that comes with the new LED.

I found the connector on the new LED has an access flap that can be pried open to work the pins out of the connector easier.

The rest of it is a case of offering the parts up & position them the best you can. It isn’t perfect but it’s a solution that I hope someone on here can take further & make improvements (and share). The main thing for me is that all of this is completely reversible & avoid drilling the inner skin. You should end up with something similar to this -

Hopefully this helps someone out there!
