GR86 2025 GR86

Probably never going to happen but I’d love to see that engine in a standard GR86, if it’s a hybrid platform it’ll probably weigh 1500kg so a non starter for everyone on this forum!

I think they've toyed with prototypes of the GRY engine but think its a non starter. It says in the article a hybrid version isnt possible due to costs and weight itll incur.
However if they did 'something' and made for all I know would be the only hybrid manual it would be in demand from day 1 at almost any price!

The 2010s Honda CR-Z was also a manual hybrid car. That didn’t do so well did it?

But hopefully with Euro 7 now watered down to almost nothing, Toyota will do something nice RWD with ICE. It’s interesting how Mazda is doing many things Toyota claimed they couldn’t justify doing, while being a much smaller company. There are plenty of compact RWD models in Toyota’s lineup and I struggle to see how they can’t share a platform just like the wrong wheel drive cars on TNGA. GR86, Mark X, IS, GS, and Crown to name a few…

Was the CRZ a bit before its time? Hybrid's were a bit unnecessary for most back then and the CRZ was neither dynamically or visually very interesting.

Euro 7 would as good as kill anything interesting out there, hopefully euro governments stop their pursuit of EVs being the solution to all mans problems and think a bit more practically.
Platform sharing like you say seem to be the most cost effective way to make something lower volume, the Supra rather impressively getting a manual where BMW dont offer one on the same engine felt like great news.
