I don't think you'll find any aftermarket intercooler that weighs less than stock, as the stock unit has plastic end tanks and all aftermarket options are larger.
I fitted an Airtec, at a guess it weighs around 6-8 kg more than stock (it's also around 60% bigger). The Airtec performs well: the...
Do you have an aftermarket downpipe/cat? They will always throw a CEL unless accounted for in an ECU tune.
I recently got an ECUTEK tune and told the tuner that I would be installing an aftermarket downpipe in future. The tuner changed the ECU settings so it won't throw a CEL when I get around...
My car received it's ecutek tune via (hub) dyno. I watched the complete tuning process, and spoke at length with the (highly experienced) tuner. This tuner does a GRY every 2 weeks.
My car is a fairly standard example, yet it took around 8-10 (I wasn't counting) dyno runs to settle on a good...
My tuner told me that the ecutek tunes are only increasing peak boost by 1-2 psi over standard. The stock ECU bleeds off boost rapidly to achieve 'torque targets'; the ecutek doesn't decrease boost as rapidly, resulting in greater top end power.
Before and after ecutek tune.
The car has an Airtec intercooler, turbo inlet elbow and printed intake snorkel, otherwise stock.
Really happy with the improvement. The additional low torque is useful on the road, but it's the top end gain I'm most looking forward to using next time at the track.
Took it for a track day.
I usually fit the standard tow hook for the track, but my gosh it looks ugly without the cover fitted. I masked and painted the tow hook, and cut a hole (drill then dremel) in a spare cover to fit over the hook. I think it came up pretty well.
It's so satisfying...
I'm looking for an easy solution, I don't mind paying a few bucks if it makes it easier.
I specifically want engine oil temp displayed because I find the dash gauge difficult to read quickly at the track.
I have a Bluetooth OBD dongle that I use with Race Chrono.
What have others tried that...
When I'm strapped into my harness I can't reach all the dash buttons in my MK1. The MK2 dash fixes that.
Is is attractive? No, not in my opinion. But nor was the MK1 dash.
I always welcome function over form in this car.
I installed a Power flex yellow torque mount insert. Happy with the result.
I also installed inflatable lumbar support in both front seats. I found this one very cheap on Amazon. The pumps tuck away neatly just behind the seatbelt receptacles.
I fitted an Airtec intercooler today. It took about 3 hours, going at a (very) leisurely pace.
Noticeably more turbo response, but the main reason I fitted it was for reduced heat soak (and power sap) in hot weather.
I fitted a printed intake tube to try and reduce air intake temperatures. I wanted to keep the stock air filter, there aren't many aftermarket options for this.
I recently did my first track day using stickier rubber. The weather was very hot (38c). The day had been planned for so long with friends that I was reluctant to pull out due to weather.
The Kumho V730 200tw tyres were incredibly consistent, providing very good feel and feedback. I was...
