Hi all
I've started to see that people are replacing their standard tyres with other makes / types and wondered if anyone had found a significant reduction in road noise in doing so? Reports that the Michelin PS4 tyre is a noisy one but on the tyre labels its no louder than any other sport tyre...
I was thinking about this on my way to work this morning and the sun was low, how with the cabin air filter etc does the inside of the windscreen get so so dirty, I dont even drive with the windows down?!?
Yes agree, when the engine is cold i go from 1st to 3rd whenever I can , not ideal but 2nd can be horrific unless like you say you bury the throttle which isnt a good thing to do on a cold engine.
Info based on Toyota press release for the 25 Hakone special (which I think looks stunning and...
I have to admit it has taken me 18 months to actually 'enjoy/like' the 86 (maybe this is one for the confessions thread!? But its strange, having until recently only done short local in around town runs and long mway drives I had started to look for something else in recent months as thought it...
I dont really either in the day to day. The traction control on / normal mode steps in quite quickly but if you exit a junction or roundabout and provoke it a little as long as the car thinks you're in control and sorting it out doesnt intervene too much but you cant get any 'angles' on it.
I...
Hi Callahan, the car looks very nice and I think the price is very reasonable, for buyers it might take a while, some economist friends are saying a lot of people are very worried about how much shafting the autumn budget will include. I suspect people with £30k for a sports car cash/loan might...
Thats super useful thanks Matt it will make a big difference Im sure to the 86. I have started looking into sound insulation as Im finishing restoring a Land Rover Series 3 hard top and its like driving a giant metal drum so Im hoping to be able to drive it without ear defenders!! :)
Im...
Amazing info thanks!
I'll get ordering some sound deadening as think that will help significantly on the motorway.
Interesting you mention the TRD strut dampers, I got so hacked off with the resonance I just removed the stock struts to the bulk head completely, it didnt remove the noise as...
Hi Matt
Great effort on the sound deadening, Im intending to do the same as the road noise is one of the key detracters from the 86, but how do you know where to put the sound deadening? I looks like patches on the rear arches for example so wondering if there is any science to it?
Also what...
Any further reviews on any short shift kits? Wouldn’t mind a shorter and more direct throw, I’m not expecting Civic Type R or Porsche but it’s a bit ‘spongy’ I think
The reason I think the mpg figures are overly optimistic as I don’t think it’s counting being stationary. Whenever you come to a stop the display goes to —— dashes which would to me suggest it’s not recording mpg when it’s effectively 0. Im consistently getting 32-33 on my commutes which is a...
hey is it your car for sale with Toyota now? https://used.toyota.co.uk/approved-used/toyota-gr86-coupe-2-4-boxer-d-4s-euro-6-2dr-jt2zn8k81pg003183?___SID=U
I was lucky enough to take the last of the FK8's to EVO car of the year in Anglesea and the Scottish boarders from Hampshire. The further I got into Wales the more the R came alive and it was just unbelievable how fast it was cross country. The 2nd jaunt from Manchester to Scotland I did mainly...
Possibly a mix of the car not being quite what some hoped or the cost/repayments needed when people need money for other things. Or jumping ship while prices are still fairly strong.
Im keeping an eye on FL5 Civic Type-R prices, if they come close to what I can get for the 86 then I think I'll...
Not sure I follow sorry. Do you mean by removing the 2nd Cat the lack of back pressure to the 1st Cat would trigger an EML?
Is it the GPF thats the next box down from the 2nd Cat? What if that went straight through?
Hi
I know there is an exhaust thread but thought this might be specific enough to have its own, Im considering an experiment with a 2nd cat delete and on the GT86 there is a relatively cheap straight pipe option - e.g. Berk Technology Test Pipe (BT8603) which is OEM fitment for the GT which is...
So I've been avoiding using the 86 on long drives and anything that involves an A-B motorway etc. Read some comments from the US on the removal of the strut bars and thought why not, I hate the racket it makes on the motorway to the point of not using it seems like a silly thing to keep!
I...
I do know of someone who had an 86 and following a track day the engine is knackered, not RTV but from oil starvation I think he said from prolonged right hand high speed cornering. Ended up with a knocking sound. I think I've read similar issues from trackdays on some of the US forums.
He's an...
For the first few hundred yards when cold the car doesnt really want to stop, we've a roundabout 100 yrds from the house and as you slow down for it until you dip the clutch it is both fighting the brake and wanting to run on like when a classic car has the choke fully out but warmed up!
