GR86 GR86 Remap - any news?

@AEG86 - just checking in, how are you getting on with the new mapping? Still happy with it, better after some time getting used to it?
Thinking I'll take the plunge and get my car in for the same...and if it's being tuned, might see if they can extract a little more power from the Infinity intake at the same time.
Heyy, I'm satisfied with the remap, the car is smoother on the throttle, easier to drive at lower speeds as a result, have seen better economy on a run over stock also. On heavier throttle inputs there is a greater urgency.

I just visited Anglesey and Snowdonia the past weekend with a passenger and fully laden car which was a good test for it, the weight penalty was less impactful than it has been in the past and the car felt brisk throughout.

I was advised that without a manifold the gains would be limited but the numbers I think for a NA motor are pretty good :)

Are the manifolds really that restrictive? Ive been bleating on about the mid pipe and manifolds for the last 3 years so should know better really. I just cant be bothered with the hassle of MOT related issues any more.

What were the stock BHP outputs of your car out of interest? I know the US lot seem to get 250hp standard with that charcoal filter they have removed.

I suppose if they make 230hp stock then a 25hp increase is very good indeed.

If i were to do na tujning again, or supercharger prep. I would go for:

EL: ACE, SME or JDL 421 manifold. JDL custom 400 cell front pipe that i ordered.

Catless uel like tuning developments and same set up as above, or JDL catted UEL with their regular catted front pipe.

For me these options would give best results + pass emissions tests. From what ive researched, a 200cell front pipe with catless manifolds won't pass emissions.

All depends on how much you want to spend + lead times on thne jdl stuff

I’m in the same camp with respect to MOT. I have a friend with a ramp so if pushed I could swap parts back and forth. I frankly can’t be bothered with the carry on every year.

If I can still get through emissions with some exhaust work and a map that’s all I’m inclined to do with respect to tubing. If I can have the car sound better, breathe better and squeeze a touch more power I’ll be in a happy place.

I’m guessing nobody has any indication if a JDL catted header and additional catted down pipe would pass emissions for UK if the OPF happened to fall in a bin during the install ?

Asking for a friend of course.

I should know soon enough and will report

I believe that Martin has hks headers with 200 cell plus catted overripe and passed
@MartinT
Give us some info mate.

He’s supercharged so it’s not a like comparison. Given how knife edge the whole emissions situation will likely be I’ll feel more confident using NA build and tune as a point of reference. 👍🏻

I know he struggled to get an MOT with his setup.

I dont know how an imported car that never came with a GPF is different to a UK car come MOT time.

I'd want what MartinT had s or had - EL HKS header and a HKS catted front pipe. I understand this is barely passable for MOT though, the cat in that HKS front pipe is pathetic. Which is what made me think leaving the standard manifold in place while fitting the catted HKS front pipe was a good idea.

I don't think there's much to be had in HP gains from changing exhaust parts really, my only gripe is the GPF. If removing it made no extra power I wouldn't care.

Tempting isn't it Dave 😅

I've already emailed Mark and Scott to enquire...they've not responded yet, which is probably for the best :D

Edit: Scott gave me a quote like 10 mins after I posted this :D

I was saving this but i am going supercharger with OEM headers and GPF in place to have an idea of power , then if power or backpressure is an issue i will go OEM header with HKS front catted pipe, But the the dam HKS supercharger is late till november

Have Abbey (or whoever?) said they can fit the HKS front pipe without any bother? I cant get a solid answer from them about it.

Well they said they can fit the header also they are testing the waters with my setup Full OEM headers and opf in place and that is teh way will stay....

Also they are being very responsive to myself Abbey that is

Yes, I have the 200 cell HKS combination of catted EL manifold and catted front pipe.
It's extremely marginal and is required to be very hot to pass.
I'm keeping my stock front pipe just in case it's needed to pass an MOT.

Abbey fitted the exhaust mods but it was made easier as my JDM BRZ has no GPF.

Did you have yours dyno'd when it was n/a with the HKS manifold and front pipe? What power did it make?
