Have the UK tuners given up with remapping the GR86? Anyone know any gossip? Are there just not enough of them to justify the effort?

Fensport said they were mapping theirs soon as they had broken the engine in back in October 2023 but not heard anything since other than they got distracted by a Yaris?

Abbey seemed kind of interested.

Keen to get the rev hang thing sorted more than anything, appreciate it won't make a lot more power.

Fensport is still playing with their Ecutek map. They are road tuning it, but Ecutek is still on Beta software for the GR86
There is another one called VFTuner which sends OTS maps but I don't think there are any tuners in the UK that use it but I may be wrong? This on is quite a lot cheaper than Ecutek though

Abbey are in the same boat when I spoke to them 6 months back. Ecutek is in beta testing and wasn't ready for customers just yet.

Best of reaching out to both to see what's the latest.

Officially, I've been asked not to share any results yet, but yes is the answer.

Mike at Tuning Developments bought his own GR86 recently, day one it was on the dyno, within a few days it was tuned and manifold fitted.

Numbers look good. It's not giving much away to say power is 250+ and torque is 200+.

Once I'm given the go ahead to share the dyno charts and more information on pricing, availability and final figures, I will do. For now, further development is happening, as well as some exhaust parts being manufactured for the slight differences between GT and GR exhausts.

I'll share more news when I can.

Thanks that's really good news.

Does the manifold have a cat (sports cat even?) in it still? If you can't say that's cool, I'm not fussed about removing the cats or gpf, simply can't risk insurance.

More interested in that god awful rev hang and throttle response, I trust that's been addressed :)

I believe the first test manifold was catless, but I can enquire about some catted options.

The rev hang and throttle response won't have been fixed yet, currently the focus is just testing limits, finding the bottlenecks etc. The car hasn't even been road tested yet.

Again, I'll raise it with Mike when I speak to him next week and see if he can give us any nuggets of info.

Look forward to hearing your findings.

I was in touch with Abbey a while ago enquiring about a Harrop supercharger. The ECUTEK was still the main hurdle they were trying to overcome at the time.

That's good to know. Mike did the work on my brother's 86, even let us borrow a car so we could spin to Trafford Centre. Good to see he's still going as I know he was moving units last I heard.

Hi GR brothers & sisters,

I am a new member and this is my first post - yay! I recently visited Mike, the same day I collected my GR86 from Preston last month and spoke to him also about the upgrades I want. I am very interested in the exhaust note and engine note. I would also like to maintain a cat to comply. Sad to hear the GT86 exhaust I have from TD won't fit on the GR. I will have to sell those parts also. The K&N filter for the intake also is different and had to recently buy a new one. Yet to test the fitting - 5060 one.

Cheers,
Mo

Mike unfortunately went through a difficult last couple of years, triggered by his forced removal from his old unit in Warrington (almost overnight) resulting in letting down a lot of customers through no fault of his own. His reputation has taken a battering, but a lot of the old GT86 guys will atest to his workmanship and the fact he's a good guy. I'm going to try and help him rebuild trust through the launch of these new products. He's never been anything but good to me, and as long as that continues he'll have my support.

Obviously if anything changes, I won't continue with that support, but I'll make my own decision, not based on rumour and hearsay, especially from people who were negatively impacted.

Hey Mo. Just a heads up, don't be too hasty in selling on the old TD exhaust. My understanding is that everything still fits aside from the overpipe. There's a slightly different angle to the fitting from the overpipe to manifold. You can make a full GT86 exhaust fit, but it's not perfect.

My understanding is there's a new overpipe in development to help solve this problem. Similarly to the GT86, this part also appears to be a major restriction in the stock exhaust.

Hope this helps.

Same, brother had his last TD kit and he did Bilsteins and other bits at the time and it's been fine for years. I'm just glad we have other options here.

Cheers, pal! I will keep all the bits as I had the NA package on the GT86.

I also can attest to Mike having been to him quite a few times and travelling all the way from London to his new place! Always been polite, respectful, helpful, great to have a chat with and knows his stuff. Never fails to respond to emails when I had questions.

Cheers,
Mo

I heard back from Abbey regarding the Harrop supercharger. I won't say what they quoted me here but the price included a remap using ECUTEK. Given this, I'd assume they are ready to do remaps now.

wouldn't it be lovely if we could get the new map via dealership so there are no warranty shenanigans.
They're never going to though - they have our money now and a remap is just another potential way for something to go wrong and them have to foot the bill. Dealer remaps usually only happen for legal/recall reasons.

I think a lot on here would be more than happy to have a rev hang and throttle remap more than any performance. I think it would sell well. I know the latest revision of JDM cars have had this done.
Curious to know what makes you think the rev hang is cured by the latest batch of jdm vehicles? Only thing I can find online is that the throttle map has been 'tweaked' , haven't seen any specifics?

No it won't do. The rev hang is there for emissions reasons.
