GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

My car has been a 3rd car since new so it’s rarely been out in the rain and NEVER when there’s salt on the road. But it’s been promoted to a 2nd car now and will need to earn earn its keep.

So yesterday in preparation for the winter it got coated in Bilt Humber in an attempt to keep the affects of the weather to a minimum.

Looking pretty good underneath for a 3 year old car.

Snap. Thankfully mine won’t ever get used in the winter.

Jesus, that's clean did either of you actually drive it :)

Planning on cleaning mine up soon and dressing it with something, was considering laying it up for winter and working on it.

What BH product was it exactly?

I did mine with mostly Bilt Hamber products earlier this year.
Just using UC wherever you can get it is OK if you're time limited.

UC clear wax for visible painted areas.
UB black/brown wax for subframes, suspension parts, and under sill seam. Harder wearing than UC.
S50 cavity wax for inside body and subframe sections.
Dinitrol RC rust converter on any spots starting to show.
Dinitrol 4010 on the aluminium undertray and rear exhaust heat shields.

It took me 3 weeks, removing undershields, exhaust and bumpers. Cleaning, degreasing, masking, spraying and putting it back together.
If you can, pay attention to the welded areas on the subframes. The paint does not stick well on those areas, usually hidden by the undershields.

Mine gets used loads in the summer. Usually dry days but not an issue in the rain. It’s the salt I avoid.
Look at most cars that are imported from Japan, most very rarely are rusty. The salt is what kills them.

I drove mine for an hour and a half in rush hour traffic for its 3rd service at Group 1 Guildford - they are also finally replacing the passenger lower seat cusion as it had a manufacturing defect.

Fingers crossed it doesn't come back with any scratches or (more) rattles!

It also was the second time it's been driven in the rain, but I leasy I was away from Rural Oxfordshire, so the roads were just roady, not muddy.... seeing all those clean undercarriages reminds me I must rust protect it!

I came home in a Yaris Hybrid... 73 MPG!

oh, no, wait they have just called to tell me the parts are not in, and they'll be in "some time in january".
For a car that's off the road in winter, marvelous. Now they are checking what to do as the wattanty will have expired by the time they get the parts, for an issue I reported nearly 3 years ago.

You couldn't make it up.

The warranty will still be valid as the issue was reported during the valid warranty period (if that makes sense!).

You must've paid for the Platinum service experience. The standard experience is that they wait until you've driven to the garage to tell you they haven't got the parts.

I still had to go for a service anyway.... however they made up for it by scratching the A pillar and centre console...
Just got home and am summoning the strength to contact them about it....

I know I'm fussier than most, but its still not on. I always take photos before it goes before and after so I can confirm the

centre console one, but I never in my life imagined that they'd clobber the A pillar so no "before" photo. - I guess it was a clip board on the way out.
New scratch on the driver's door too, but it'll polish out.

I really wish the plastics in this car held up better, you do much a look at them the wrong way and they scratch, is it because they see the car as having a short life and it's kinda disposable cheap product?

I am so careful with my interior yet it's got all kinds of marks, hate to imagine the state of it by someone not trying to be careful.

I agree, the fragile paint and interior is my main bug bear in this car. To the point where I don’t really like taking passengers (that aren’t family and know the score) as I feel like I’m coming across as odd asking them not to scratch the plastics and insist that all bags etc go in the boot instead of the footwell; via the dash…

I'd forgo the expensive swivelling headlamps just for proper paint and plastics. It's why I am so so careful in this car, the only other interior blemish of not was already there on delivery (button for centre console). it infuriates me that after nearly 3 years of ownership, service techs do more damage than I have, and I feel like I’m the one being awkward when I mention it.

It's the reason I have wide strips of clear 3M protective scuff tape placed in strategic areas of the interior, like along the bottom and sides of the door cards (where kicking commonly occurs), as well as on some areas of the dashboard like the bottom of the glove compartment and to the lower right of the steering column, (which I have sometimes given a back-heel to when trying not to scuff the sills). It might look a bit naff, but it has prevented many a mark from both myself and careless passengers. A roll of the 5cm wide stuff was a few quid on Ebay.

3 weeks and removed the under trays and shields… that’s some commitment and nice selection of BH products!

I just used BH UC and coated everywhere that was exposed.

I did the same thing soon after getting it so would like to think that’s helped it a bit….

I dont know how you dared let them near your car after the sales experience I, and im guessing you, had with them. Did you buy it when they were inchcape?

Foregoing the 10 year warranty was worth it just to not have those clowns touch my car. Hate dealers. Nothing but bad experience. Even had a Focus ST scratched up years ago by the clowns in the ford dealer there.

I use Steven Eagell in Bedford. Never had a bad service from them. Car is always well looked after too even though they never wash it.

A few comfort mods for the weekend was undecided about the arm rest but perfect elbow position.
Went for the cheap knee pads as the OEM one is for driver only.
You can get the in red stitching to match your car too but went white for mine.

Drove it!! Had a bit of free time after working the last couple weekends and the better half away for the weekend so I made the most of the time / sunshine and spent the afternoon driving it like it was intended to be! 😀

My only slight concern is that I think they are becoming a bit common! 🤦🏼‍♂️😂 When I took the daily to the supermarket this evening I spotted a Sapphire Blue parked up well away from the door.

Last weekend there was a Magnetite grey in the car park at my mums and the weekend before that a red one on the Edinburgh city bypass (we shared a 👋)!

All this in three weeks, yet in the last three years I’ve only seen about three out in the wild! 😂
