Toyota vice-chairman Shigeru Hayakawa has mentioned a new eight-speed torque-converter auto.

Interestingly it also mentions being available on the GR Yaris, but given those are sold out, I'm not sure which ones!

It’s a great move, having a 6MT and 8AT should please everyone and definitely widen the appeal of the GRC If the 8AT is as good as the ZF8 speed it should be a great option

Let’s hope they don’t make the 8AT gearing long to get better fuel economy figures than the 6MT , the gearing on the GR86 6AT is way longer than the 6MT

Nope won't be getting the GRC, it will just look like another Corolla, as the GRY looks like a shopping trolley, all be it on steroids

The Supra does or GR86 will turn heads...basically no one here notices the GRY unless they are a "train spotter"

Number 4 will be the real GR Hilux, was in a mates GR Landcruiser over the weekend......what a machine, drove one a few months ago

betting it reaches top speed on 6th and two remaining are over gears as with all current cars.

Apparently they are tuning it to shift hard and fast, not to hunt for top gear for fuel economy. They want it to be a true alternative to the manual box.

Given we don't have a drive mode switch that controls engine behaviour, it sounds like it might be rev happy in every gear unless you are only at partial throttle.

in the GR86 4th is 1:1 as the ratios are the same as the GT86. An 8AT with 1-6 all evenly spaced and 7&8 as overdrive would be great

that's quite long ratio then for GR86 - one gear longer than with GRY, Though Final ratio with GR86 is shorter than with Yaris.
Did a comparison chart of gear ratios on 7000rpm with 225 tire. GRY seems to have longer ratios.
