GR86 Damaged on collection

Collecting a GR86 tomorrow despite front bumper impact damage - minor but detailers will be able to address with correction and PPF.

Given this and other frustrations, submitted a formal written complaint to the CEO of Toyota GB Plc. I’ll report back on Toyota’s response.

Would be useful to understand how isolated my experience has been compared to other forum members.

Poll an opportunity to identify:

a. Undamaged or Damaged

and

b. Vehicle accepted or Vehicle rejected.

Hopefully we’ll identify a vast majority of satisfied owners who collected undamaged vehicles.

I know of at least 3 damaged & rejected cars in Edinburgh, but I’m guessing that their initial ‘owners’ probably don’t frequent these forum walls anymore after getting their refunds and moving on… That said, if mine is damaged when it arrives in November it will be getting rejected and I’ll report back

I accepted mine with a few scratches on the bumper and a little plastic part near the front wheel in need of replacement, but that was noted down on the "handing over" document. When the part arrived they repaired everything. Sad, but at the time it was suposed to be somewhat limited and I couldn't really "reject" it.

If it was today I think I would have requested a whole new front bumper, my detailer was able to identify what and where it was painted/repaired. Might be a little to much over some scratches, but in the end I am buying a new car.

I have a small bit of paint missing on my door edge from where it's been opened into another car, didn't notice until after collecting. I did think they were quite eager to get me to sign paperwork and leave quickly when there got some touch up paint anyways, wouldn't trust them to fix it even if I could convince them.

Is the central sales strategy resented? Dealer sales team behaviours suggest this is the problem. With limited or no ability to cross-sell/up-sell, how can GR86 customers be a dealer sales priority?


Curios about the numbers of damaged/rejected cars and what’s happening to them. If the dealers are taking them as demonstrators, damaging a car would be an easy way to convert a zero-margin opportunity to a high margin one.

Cynical but I’ve encountered enough bad actors and corporate fraud to appreciate it’s a possibility.

On the plus side, the parts team at Guildford seem to be good guys - though they haven’t been able to find me a Ducktail Spoiler or Mud Flaps.

Sales guy or should that be Hanover agent told me he got £50 commission for doing the handover. Would have to be handing over a lot cars to make any money.

Had a mate whose collection is delayed because there is damage to the rear seats. Toyota have ordered new ones for him.

Nothing but you can select multiple voting options to cover most events eg., Undamaged at Collection + Vehicle Rejected (for someone that just didn't like the interior maybe or no longer wanted HP?). So if everything was good and you took it home then it'd be Undamaged at Collection + Vehicle accepted undamaged.

My understanding of this poll (forgive my presumptuousness @RumbleandSway and please do correct me if I'm wrong) is that all respondents should select one option from statements 1 to 6 inclusive (the condition of the car), AND one option from statements 7 to 10 inclusive (the buyer's chosen response to the aforementioned car condition).

Ergo, there should be an equal number of total responses for statements 1-6 when compared with responses for 7-10.

Everyone should be selecting two options in total (unless for example the car was damaged in some way and you have yet to decide what to do about it).
