So I've had my GR86 since Wednesday and I've started to notice that driving at lower speeds on bumpy roads, over speed bumps, etc. there's a relatively loud noise coming from the rear of the car. It kind of sounds like a knocking/vibrating noise - the only similar noise I can compare it to was the noise that the GT86 boot lid would make when you slammed it shut. Once you notice it, you can't unnotice it 😂
I'm assuming it's related to the spoiler or boot lid - from what I can see, the spoiler is taped rather than bolted.
I've checked the back seats, there's nothing in the boot and from what I can see/hear, it doesn't sound like it's coming from underneath the car. The sound either goes away or is unnoticeable at higher speeds and can't be heard on smooth roads.
I'm going to contact the dealership, but wondered if anyone else has had this?

Is the noise still there when you have something weighted in the boot? Wondering if it could be the boot liner instead?

Boot floor carpet
I'm going to test this with something heavy in the boot! I've not had any shopping trips yet so the boots currently empty except for some bags for life.

Nipping out to grab cat litter so it's a good time to test the theory. Will report back 😊

The cat litter definitely reduced the noise right down so it was only going over bigger bumps that caused it rather than every little bump in the road.

We're now about 90% sure that the noise is the polystyrene space saver thingy under the boot carpet. Going to take that out in the week and go for a few drives with it taken out, but feeling better that it doesn't seem to be a mechanical issue or a problem with the spoiler.

Thanks for the help guys!

Glad it was just that and nothing more serious!

Mine was something similar it the was a combination of the liner/carpet moving and the tyre repair kit not sitting snugly enough. So I just squeezed it into another part of the polystyrene and that’s seemed to make the issue go away.

I'm glad it's not just me that's had this problem! If the polystyrene space saver is the issue, I might just use a bit of double sided tape to tape it to the base of the car to stop it moving around.
As long as it's not mechanical though, I can live with any slight noises, it's just the figuring it out that's a pain 😊

I had a similar sounding issue with my GT86 and spent ages trying to work out what it could be. I velcro’d everything within an inch of its life in the boot area and behind the seats, even inspecting the rear bumper fittings, only to discover it was the plastic attachment on the fuel cap!

Oh that must have been so frustrating! 😂 I've still not found the exact cause yet, I may just take it to the dealership and let them figure it out at this rate!
